I just want to say that I'm so happy that people are taking notice of privacy concerns in cars

Mozilla released their studies, and I’m seeing a growing number of posts on the Internet about cars and the privacy nightmare they entail. I remember how this issue wasn’t talked about earlier because “just buy an older car” was still prevalent. I’m so happy that people are taking notice. Thank you to this community...

MigratingtoLemmy,

The artists I mentioned in my comment are whom I have listened to recently

MigratingtoLemmy,

I think I’m the only one here who likes mainstream J-pop.

Anybody for Aimer, ReoNa, LiSa, Yorushika, Minami, TK from Ling Tosite Sigure, nZk, Uru, Tielle, Yuuri?

No? I suppose I’m alone in my listening habits. I do like baroque music though

MigratingtoLemmy, (edited )

Thanks, I hope to not be this way as I age

MigratingtoLemmy,

Thanks for the tip.

That was meant as a joke at the end; however, you’re right. Being nice has been giving me fewer positive results by the month.

MigratingtoLemmy,

I sit and feel horrible about myself, mentally punishing myself for all of the mistakes. About an hour or two later, my mind gives up, and I become pragmatic.

MigratingtoLemmy,

With the heat waves in Europe right now, I don’t think the other side has it any better.

I think you mean summer, rather than monsoon. And yes, it is quite humid in comparison. I never got used to it, I always sweat like a pig in the summer, without exception. As you figured out, the trick is to stay indoors.

MigratingtoLemmy,

I am lucky in the sense that I like specific things; and the feeling of liking them hasn’t faded. However, the phenomenon you’re likely pointing to is simply being more jaded as an adult

MigratingtoLemmy,

My body is the kind that absolutely won’t lose weight unless I do some cardio. Unfortunately, the gym is a while away, and work isn’t very forgiving either. If I worked hard on a day, I’ll come back home with a headache, and if I run with that my head will split open.

Eating healthy doesn’t seem to have an effect on my body. Even if I cut back to 1500 calories, my body fat is so stubborn that I couldn’t lose even a single kilogram in 2 months (didn’t exercise) of a very strict diet (not to mention I would be hungry sometimes).

I wonder if I could have a treadmill at home, and could just have a brisk walk every night I don’t feel like it (and run without going to the gym), I would actually do more cardio and maybe loss weight faster. But I can’t afford it.

My body looks like the underside of a frog, so I understand what you’re saying.

MigratingtoLemmy,

No. Never. I think I’m very different because I am never motivated, nor feel good during/after exercise. No, my testosterone is fine.

MigratingtoLemmy,

I would use session with people I meet on the internet. For my family, they are too entrenched in other chat services for me to be able to move. When I root my mobile I will put these apps in the workspace.

MigratingtoLemmy,

Even more secure and private. Works with session keys instead of mobile numbers like Signal.

MigratingtoLemmy,

What does that mean? You want to decrypt messages from Session and compare it to how much time it takes to decrypt messages on Signal?

MigratingtoLemmy,

It’s time to use session over Signal

Is there any plugin or way to block forced registration

I have long been tired of the fact that I can not normally use 90% of sites without registration. I’m not going to create an account in order to read a post that interests me right now. But today was the last straw. Fucking Tumblr makes me create an account just to find and read 1 POST. (Sorry for mistakes, I am non English...

MigratingtoLemmy,

Thanks for the tip, I should try this!

MigratingtoLemmy,

If they keep serving a pop-up for you to register, find the JS function that does that and remove it. Or use NoScript and disable it.

But if they absolutely require logins then I’m afraid the only thing you can do is use temp emails

What can a senior desktop support tech do who is burned out?

I am wondering what kind of career moves I have available to me because I am over the bullshit of desktop support. I have been brushing up on my Linux skills, learning docker, and doing a whole bunch of networking-related things. At this point, I am 46 years old. Would it benefit me to go back to school to learn a skill to help...

MigratingtoLemmy,

Download any FOSS RSS client for your OS. I'm looking at:

  1. https://github.com/yang991178/fluent-reader
  2. https://github.com/hello-efficiency-inc/raven-reader
  3. https://github.com/nkanaev/yarr

I'll be switching from QuiteRSS which is not maintained anymore.

Then, find how to get rss feeds for whatever you want (Reddit, Lemmy and Youtube are fairly easy). That's all

MigratingtoLemmy,

No. I'll use RSS to lurk on subs that don't move, but this more and fragmentation has pushed me to finally try and curb my endless scrolling habits (by utilising IRC, I now only go through small bytes of content, and if I don't feel like it is important, I don't waste any more time).

MigratingtoLemmy,

You can create your own instance of Lemmy and close signups. Just federate it with whichever server you want. That's all
