MigratingtoLemmy,

I block all 3rd scripts and some first party scripts along with restricting capabilities of the domains I do allow with a combination of uBlock Origin and NoScript. I’m definitely not paying for a subpar experience compared to this

MigratingtoLemmy,

Suck cost fallacy. If you’re going to pay, switching is the best idea.

With that said, I’m going to pirate everything I can (and pay the person who ripped it instead) till I die

MigratingtoLemmy,

I’d much rather donate to individual creators than such mega corporations

Time to ditch #duckduckgo (lemmy.world)

In the last couple of months I have noticed an increasing trend of supplying me search results that are completely unrelated to the current query and tie back to my location or previous searches. I can say this with a high degree of certainty this is without a doubt beyond the 100th instance this has happened....

MigratingtoLemmy,

I turned JS off other than for specific websites. This includes DDG. It gives me accurate results, although the other commenters don’t seem be facing your problem either

MigratingtoLemmy,

At home too?

MigratingtoLemmy,

FreeBSD unless I’m doing something that’s need a fairly secure system, in which case OpenBSD disconnected from the Internet with my private mirror for security patches.

MigratingtoLemmy,

I watched the video. It was truly beautiful.

I think I would have cried a little if I were in his place.

MigratingtoLemmy,

I suppose I’m lucky I’m not a social person

MigratingtoLemmy,

TBH I don’t really care that much as long as the source is available. Some talented dev can fork it if the project goes sideways. I’d like a webapp/desktop app too

MigratingtoLemmy,

I had heard of this company a while back when I was looking for this exact same thing. They have been in the business for many years and their methods of cracking have been mostly reliable till now. If you need one, get it from them or through their Amazon store

Is it better to use a non-FOSS email and phone number forwarder or to use one of each for everything? (www.cloaked.app)

I like to try websites out before tying my identity to them. How do you do it? Simplelogin? I honestly won’t manually make a new gmail for every new website I try and I to want the option to see what emails I get.

MigratingtoLemmy, (edited )

Do you pay for the premium tier? I would like a decent credit score, and using my card for normal, everyday purchases doesn’t bother me as much.

Edit: Well, technically, they have your data anyway. It’s like using Paypal for everything. TBH I’m OK with the system as it is right now, but I’d like greater adoption for Monero so I can make purchases directly using that instead of converting it to fiat once again.

MigratingtoLemmy,

I’d never use a temp email when I’m paying, considering they have my CC info. For random accounts that I won’t check the mail accounts of, temp is great. Not going to trust a company for this.

MigratingtoLemmy,

Ah, you’d use Privacy.com? Decent idea I suppose.

MigratingtoLemmy,

I do not understand the downvotes. I mentioned desolder in case some TVs have wiring that cannot be detached easily. People seem to have taken me to be a paranoid agent of sorts (my working assumption) just because of one word. Is this really the privacy community, or a place to discourage people from taking privacy into their own by (sometimes) doing the slightly difficult-to-do work?

MigratingtoLemmy,

I can’t even get that page to load without a lot of JS allowed. I guess I’m not going to get my score anytime soon.

MigratingtoLemmy,

It just keeps reloading and after 5 tries it gives up. I could probably go through each domain manually but I’d like it if they could let me keep the 3rd party domains disabled.

MigratingtoLemmy,

Whatever works really. I don’t care which app/system does it as long as the government doesn’t have private key

MigratingtoLemmy,

We need to use some tool. If the government doesn’t have your private key, they can’t decrypt your messages. I don’t care how that is implemented, but companies like Signal will either fight to the death or bow out

Thinkpads RE: Repairability/upgradability

I need to upgrade my laptop and one of the things I’m looking for is repairability/upgradability. I’ve been told thinkpads are good in this respect, how true is that? In terms of replacing batteries and memory, at least. I’m also looking at the frameworks, but those black friday deals are looking alright at lenovo....

MigratingtoLemmy,

Framework outlet is a great idea. I’ll add that I recently came across deals from Dell selling an XPS13 from 2020 for $449 and MSI selling an Intel powered laptop (no discrete GPU, almost office laptop) for $399. The older Thinkpads will be reliable though

MigratingtoLemmy,

Ah, sucks

MigratingtoLemmy,

Could you take a look at deepl.com’s API? It’s supposed to be better than Google translate for European languages

MigratingtoLemmy,

Could you link to this? I didn’t know such a patch-set existed
