MigratingtoLemmy,

Cheap casio because I definitely do not want a mobile on my wrist. Too distracting already

Facebook Watches Teens Online As They Prep for College – The Markup (themarkup.org)

“After signing into their ACT account, if a student accepted cookies on the following page, Facebook received details on almost everything they clicked on—including scrambled but identifiable data like their first and last name, and whether they’re registering for the ACT. The site even registered clicks about a...

MigratingtoLemmy,

Your reply to your comment above is better: just one italicised caption makes it easy to understand. Great job!

Spending a few days with Hyprland made me realize how awesome Gnome is

Don’t get me wrong. Hyprland is great. I like it a lot. It looks fresh, it’s easy to configure and the keybindings are super easy to implement, but it’s also very barebones. Most of the functionality expected from a DE come from external software. Be it a top bar, an app launcher, a notification daemon or anything else....

MigratingtoLemmy,

Anybody with experience with Cagebreak? I like ratpoison but maybe not having to port a lot of configuration by hand would be nice

MigratingtoLemmy,

Wow, that’s amazing!

MigratingtoLemmy,

You are right. I didn’t think about it like so before. I could point at I2P and TOR but I don’t think that’s foolproof either, neither do I know enough to be able to comment. Is there no way out?

MigratingtoLemmy,

Wait, if the EU is in favour of secure encryption, then who is opposing it in the EU? I haven’t heard of encryption being broken in America

MigratingtoLemmy,

Suck cost fallacy. If you’re going to pay, switching is the best idea.

With that said, I’m going to pirate everything I can (and pay the person who ripped it instead) till I die

MigratingtoLemmy,

Of course. They deserve it more for their time than software engineers on a fixed salary anyway.

Plot twist: it’s the same software engineers who work to cracking their code. Perfect strategy to continued employment as well as earning money on the side from people like me. Of course, I appreciate their time nonetheless.

MigratingtoLemmy,

Thanks, had a look. Seems fantastic, I’ll keep this in mind!

MigratingtoLemmy,

Hey OP, any reason you’re not using Pipewire?

MigratingtoLemmy,

Agreed. Was just looking at Podman’s documentation the other day, and even though it’ll run on distributions without systemd, for a second I thought cgroups might not even work without systemd. Glad that’s not the case though, but I’m predicting a few problems down the road simply because I plan to use Alpine.

MigratingtoLemmy,

The only way I come across new releases/films are from YouTube recommendations of clips/trailers. And even that stops when the Piped instance where I’m on works properly for me.

It’s kind of nice but I’ll have to admit that YouTube knows me so well that it’s recommendations are something I actually enjoy. I came to know about the Loki series from trailers on YouTube

MigratingtoLemmy,

I would be interested in ripping Loki tbh. I didn’t know it was by Disney, but I suppose it doesn’t matter to a pirate such as I

MigratingtoLemmy,

Could you explain? I’m still stuck with a mind-block, can’t imagine how a git server can track changes to code with messages from email

MigratingtoLemmy,

Thanks, I understand your point. Thinking about it, this might not work everywhere

MigratingtoLemmy,

Not a specific file but a domain. And yes, if the processing is done server-side then there is very little we can do about that. Note that I’m not asking one to disable every script on the page, just the specific script for the pop-up/blurring by the paywall

MigratingtoLemmy,

I’d just use NoScript and disable the domain supplying the script

MigratingtoLemmy, (edited )

Thanks, I hope to not be this way as I age

MigratingtoLemmy,

I am lucky in the sense that I like specific things; and the feeling of liking them hasn’t faded. However, the phenomenon you’re likely pointing to is simply being more jaded as an adult

Is there any plugin or way to block forced registration

I have long been tired of the fact that I can not normally use 90% of sites without registration. I’m not going to create an account in order to read a post that interests me right now. But today was the last straw. Fucking Tumblr makes me create an account just to find and read 1 POST. (Sorry for mistakes, I am non English...

MigratingtoLemmy,

I would use session with people I meet on the internet. For my family, they are too entrenched in other chat services for me to be able to move. When I root my mobile I will put these apps in the workspace.

MigratingtoLemmy,

Even more secure and private. Works with session keys instead of mobile numbers like Signal.

What can a senior desktop support tech do who is burned out?

I am wondering what kind of career moves I have available to me because I am over the bullshit of desktop support. I have been brushing up on my Linux skills, learning docker, and doing a whole bunch of networking-related things. At this point, I am 46 years old. Would it benefit me to go back to school to learn a skill to help...
