MigratingtoLemmy,

If you’re running a compatible OS (Debian will work), cockpit for VMs and whatever you like for containers.

Or just do everything on the command line like us crusty system admins

MigratingtoLemmy,

Wait how? What do you use? I think I’ve seen a Terraform connector for Kubernetes but that’s about it

How many of you run a Linux phone (Pine64, Librem etc) as your daily driver?

I was going through Pine64’s page again after I found the latest KDE announcement. With that said, I seem to see a lot of issues with firmware on the Pine, whilst the Librem is just plain out of budget for me. Was interested in how many people here run a Linux mobile as a daily driver, and how has your experience been?...

MigratingtoLemmy,

And the commenter is lamenting how greedy companies are getting and customers agreeing to get themselves bent for these corporations. Apple started the pricing model and Samsung followed suit, and now everyone just takes it as default pricing. This is a pathetic state of affairs

MigratingtoLemmy,

I’m interested in the problems you faced. I have realised that I will need GMS/MicroG for maps, and am unclear if I can get a FOSS app to host my local mail inbox without GMS. Other than that, everything else can be done in the browser (technically even maps can be used in the browser but I digress).

Would like to know which services prevent you from leaving Google

MigratingtoLemmy,

Do you specifically use feature-phones?

MigratingtoLemmy,

What inconveniences have you faced from the software?

Copying my edit here: I am willing to watch content and use banking apps from the browser. Do you think it’ll be fit for me?

MigratingtoLemmy,

In Europe? AFAIK Motorola’s latest devices don’t have builds on the Lineage OS website (from 2023) but I might be wrong.

MigratingtoLemmy,

iOS being secure is a farce which the population has just gobbled up without reason

MigratingtoLemmy,

I could not find an official support branch of postmarketOS for the PPP.

Other than that, as you say, Pine64’s interaction has waned greatly and I wonder what is going on behind the scenes. This is no FP5, certainly, but availability of parts is a requirement for me

MigratingtoLemmy,

You need root for that. This is trivial with root.

If you don’t want to patch with Magisk, look at KernelSU

MigratingtoLemmy,

OK WTF I need this machine now I didn’t realise a Dell workstation was granted support. Link please?

MigratingtoLemmy,

It’s funny that this is on AskLemmy and not some linux-specific community. Reinforces the image that Lemmy users are the more computer-savvy people (which I find great!)

MigratingtoLemmy,

What do you use for automated manga downloads? I’ll probably have to stick with FMD2, but development seems to be a bit slow

MigratingtoLemmy,

Kavita is supposed to be the self-hosted automated manga downloader, unfortunately, their website seems to be down.

I believe FMD2 running in an OCI-compatible container with WINE underneath and Guacamole to present the app’s GUI should be a decent alternative, since I heard that FMD2 can auto-download new manga chapters/releases

Facebook Watches Teens Online As They Prep for College – The Markup (themarkup.org)

“After signing into their ACT account, if a student accepted cookies on the following page, Facebook received details on almost everything they clicked on—including scrambled but identifiable data like their first and last name, and whether they’re registering for the ACT. The site even registered clicks about a...

MigratingtoLemmy, (edited )

Hmm, I’m on my computer now and I can’t see the image for some reason.

Edit: sorry, just my browser. But why do I see two [You’ve done well]s?

MigratingtoLemmy, (edited )

I don’t think so. AFAIK there is no native method to caption images in markdown, which is what this editor uses. People try to bring about this effect by italicising the part they would want as a caption right underneath the image. However, in your case, I see a [You’ve done well] banner underneath the image, which I assume is the caption you meant. Not sure how that happened but if that works, great!

*some text* = some text

MigratingtoLemmy,

Well, yes, GnuPG is certainly an option. I don’t care how it’s implemented though, but I do care about the fact that clients/client apps take encryption into their own hands instead of relying on middleware.

MigratingtoLemmy,

It just keeps reloading and after 5 tries it gives up. I could probably go through each domain manually but I’d like it if they could let me keep the 3rd party domains disabled.

MigratingtoLemmy,

I had heard of this company a while back when I was looking for this exact same thing. They have been in the business for many years and their methods of cracking have been mostly reliable till now. If you need one, get it from them or through their Amazon store

MigratingtoLemmy,

I’d probably use helix/codium with vim bindings for more complex projects, with vim for Scripting in python/shell/config files

MigratingtoLemmy,

Are CDs not available for some artists/albums you want?

MigratingtoLemmy,

Exactly. Other systems are clearly doing one thing: init. Systemd wants to do everything
