His lawyers have run out pretty much every option to delay trials, although several judges have seemed pretty damn complicit as well. I get wanting to make sure the case is as airtight as possible, but…the people they’re worried about pissing off with a case that isn’t entirely formed, were just going to be pissed off anyway.

I’ll throw in Oliver Queen (Green Arrow), who literally threw his fortune and company down the drain because he couldn’t square being a good person and a billionaire. Oh, and he also went and fought drug dealers, corrupt landlords, and racists in the 80s with Green Lantern specifically because the government wasn’t doing anything substantial to stop those things.

Writers are to blame for superheroes supporting the status quo, not the genre.

From what I understand, the bigger issue was that the producers thought the networks would get cagey if they went any further with queer representation. You must sadly remember that this was the 90s - not even ten years since a White House press secretary had openly laughed in a press conference about gay people dying of AIDS.

I had my manager try to call me in while I was on the other side of the country. He tried to tell me I hadn’t informed him of my vacation, so I sent him the picture and emails where I had listed my vacation in the scheduler. Then he told me I was lying, so I sent him a selfie of me in front of Fort Yellowstone.

Basically this. Since the captaincy was decided democratically, you don’t want to get people hurt or killed - your own or the ship you’re boarding. So what do you do? Act terrifying as hell, and make literally everyone you interact with THINK you’re going to butcher them into tiny pieces. It helps when you’re at least six inches, and more likely a foot taller than most any other sailor (Blackbeard was over 6 feet, most seamen were under 5’8 because of a variety of factors).

Part of that is because their mission statement isn’t literally regarded as radical anymore. When Sesame Street launched, and really up through the early 90s, it was radically progressive to have a kid’s show that tried to teach kids things, and more specifically targeted inner-city kids by using surroundings they would be familiar with. Most of us grew up with Sesame Street just being on the air normally, and most of us here didn’t live through the Senate hearings on public television. It’s a minor miracle shows like Sesame Street and Mr Rogers’ Neighborhood are regarded as mainstream and boring now.

Because for a shocking amount of people, this is “manly”. Compromising and trying to get along with other people is WRONG and BAD and you should get angry when you don’t get your way.

More specifically, we don’t really teach source analysis in a lot of schools anymore. I’ve run into college students who have no idea of how to discern that a source is bullshit - especially if the site or source looks well-polished and sounds like it knows what it’s talking about. Even a lot of Q people have figured out that the best way to draw people in is to look and sound professional, not just ranting into a camera in your truck cabin - you need a nice backdrop, and probably a polo shirt at minimum.

As far as I know, Wolverine would survive this. He might not be conscious until he reenters an atmosphere conducive to human life, but the Hulk has survived being thrown into space many times.

TBH, O’brien’s been on the Enterprise long enough to know that when weird, seemingly powerful creatures start talking to you, you should be very, very careful. Even if they present themselves as storybook characters.

That’s simply poor route planning, which could be solved by better bus funding, leading to more buses with more stops and more frequent trips.

Parents do here as well, generally speaking. Guess how well that’s enforced? Moreover, these kids who get kicked out often would face persecution, abuse, or possibly even death if they had to go back, state-enforced or not.

Haven’t there already been state-level cases that allow this? I swear I saw something about this out of Tennessee.
