According to the Australian Electoral Commission, the decline in voter turnout was the driving force behind the introduction of mandatory voting. It said that voter turnout dropped from 71 per cent in the 1919 election to less than 60 per cent in the 1922 elections.

In order to address the problem, a private member’s bill to amend the Electoral Act was introduced in the Senate in 1924. At the time, it was only the third private member’s bill to be passed into law since 1901.

As a result of the law, the voter turnout at the 1925 election rose to over 91 per cent.

Gradually, states across the country introduced compulsory voting starting from Victoria in 1926, New South Wales and Tasmania in 1928, Western Australia in 1936 and South Australia in 1942.

When enrollment and voting at federal elections was introduced for Australian Aborigines in 1949 it was voluntary, and continued to be so until 1984 when enrollment and voting became compulsory for all eligible electors.

CRT focuses on how this arbitrary idea of race shapes how people are treated, especially on a societal scale. We divide people by wealth, by where they’re born, what gender they are, etc. All of these things affect how people are treated. I find most of the pushback is because some white people feel attacked when someone points to the fact that whiteness is a status.

Everyone has different DNA and nobody refutes that, but the lines at which race are defined are completly arbitrary. Are you considered black if you have 50% sub Saharan African DNA? Most would say yes. Are you black at 25%? How about at 5 or 10%? The slew of different answers is a clue that race is just a social construct borne of perception rather than hard fact.

Similarly, a lot of groups that are considered “white” today would not have been in the slightest if you were to go back 100+ years. The Irish, Italians, Greeks, among others were not considered white until more recently than you might believe.

Thats the crux of it, race is only truly defined by these arbitrary lines in the sand that people draw, and these lines are different for different groups and individuals. Race is only real because people perceive it to be. We could divide up society based on hair color or if your ear lobes hang or are directly connected to your head and it would make just as much sense, which is to say not much.

Edit: I might add that there’s more genetic diversity in sub Saharan Africa than anywhere else in the world but they all get lumped together as black because “skin dark”. It’s stupid when you examine it.

My mother worked at a catholic school; she was sexually harassed by the principal of the school and rather than firing the POS the diocese sent the whole staff to sexual harassment training. I found that to be a real slap in the face. Showed me they still had zero interest in accountability. I still appreciate the message behind a lot of what the church preaches (I loathe some of their stances, mostly related to sex and abortion) but I refuse to enable their hypocrisy.

How is the piracy experience on an iPad ?

So I am planning on buying an ipad, never owned one before. I have always been an android guy and from what I have heard Ipad os or ios is pretty restrictive in nature so I was wondering how much does it hamper the piracy experience. For example on android I can torrent files of any nature or size without any restrictions and...

It’s possible, just more annoying to pirate on iPad. I mainly use a vpn+ movie web with decent results, my main gripe is if I cast from my iPad to my tv movie web doesn’t bring the subtitles over, they keep playing on my iPad instead.

I’m not sure if Stremio+torrentio work. If you have the luxury of having access to a media server there’s some good options to access that content from iPads.

As for torrenting, currently there are no torrent apps allowed on the App Store. You can use a service like Seedr to download the torrent for you which you can then direct download. Again, possible, just more annoying than it should be for a personal computing device. I’m hopeful that this will change with Apple seemingly being forced to allow third party app stores. Time (and the EU) will tell

I have no issue with a long movie, but I’m of the opinion that any movie over two and a half hours needs an intermission. I don’t need a UTI for your art, directors/editors.

The I found the colors to be beautiful, especially in the Mexican pyramid motif level. Can you be more specific about what you mean when you say it feels Hollywood? Are you referring to the plot of the game?

Mario Odyssey was great and I won’t hear otherwise. Beautiful and diverse levels, lots of hidden moons, and some really complex and interesting new platform mechanics made for a fantastic game.
