Nemo,

Natural is not always good. Being disappointed or frustrated are acceptable reactions; getting upset is not.

Nemo,

The version of this I use is “You can’t unmash a potato.”

Nemo,

Same sitch, but my Dwarf Fortress hours are much, much higher.

If I can combine all versions of the Civilization series it might top it, but not by much.

Nemo,

No, I don’t have to accept a digital photo of your license as ID. No, your birth certificate is not proof of identity; it doesn’t have your picture.

But the absolute worst one: Not only is this a beat-up photocopy of a foreign ID card with no photo; it also clearly states that you are 19 and even if I accepted this document as valid identification, which I can’t, I still could not legally serve you alcohol.

Nemo,

How would I compare? But no, I do fine.

Nemo,

Apparently, lucid dreaming. Been doing it my whole life, requires no effort to initiate.

Nemo,

Instead of livejournal, I wrote my own blogging software in PHP.

Nemo,

This is Taco John’s potato olé erasure, and I will not stand for it.

Have you had any bad experiences with people on Lemmy?

I was recently talking to some friends about Lemmy and the whole Fediverse idea, as it seemed like a really cool part of the Internet. As I was talking about it, though, I realized how unusually friendly this whole place is, and I joked that I “surprisingly haven’t found any bigotry.”...

Nemo,

Maybe that’s why I’m enjoying lemmy more: No access to reports and removed comments.

Nemo,

Yeah, I got into an exchange the other day where a dozen users made a point of telling me why they support using misogynistic slurs, or how the slur isn’t any worse than other impolite words, or how it isn’t really misogynistic, or how it’s okay when used against evil people.

It was real disappointing, and I’m strongly considering unsubbing the community where the thread took place.

Nemo,

90% of willpower is preparation. Arrange your life to make the things you should do easier and the things you should avoid less convenient.

Example: To avoid sleeping in, or worse, dicking around on my phone instead of sleeping or getting up, I put my phone to charge on the other side of the bedroom.

Another: I put a speaker in my kitchen to listen to music when I wash dishes. A lot easier to wash just those last few pots, even if I feel like I’m ready for a break, if I want to finish the song.

Nemo,

My youngest is about to enter kindergarten; I need to transition to daytime. It means leaving my current job, which is love, but otherwise I’ll never see my kids.

Do you prefer PC or laptop? (freeonlinesurveys.com)

I was having a friendly discussion with someone this morning about PC and Laptops for work/education stuff, he suggested that I could use a chromebook for all this stuff and this would be a good idea and make things easier. I strongly disagreed with this, mainly because I hate laptops, the keyboard and touchpad make me angry and...

Nemo,

Aren’t all laptops PCs?

Oh, rereading, I see you’re talking about netbooks specifically, which, yeah, are kind of not really PCs.

I prefer PCs for most things, no real preference for desktop or laptop as long as I can use a mouse; I usually do desktop because they’re cheaper to build and usually quieter.

Netbooks are fine for classwork, browsing, and webdesign in most cases.

Have you ever gotten scammed, package stolen, or been a victim of fraud in any way?

I just got my package of new earphones from Best Buy, and the box was fucking empty. I mean there is the box and instruction manuals and charging cable, but the actual earphones aren’t there. They’ve used Shipt (which is like a doordash but for packages) but the box was inside another layer of packaging which was supposedly...

Nemo,

Yeah. Had the time-card printout showing four hours of overtime. No overtime on my paycheque. Like an idiot, I gave my manager the printout so he could “investigate”. Yeah, never got paid for those four hours.

Nemo,

Childbirth. It’s been three times now, and it’s so bad. Worse that Boy Scout summercamp latrines. Worse than when a dog farts after eating people food. Worse than a septic tank. Worse than opening a fridge left unplugged and full of food for a month.

I’ve smelled all these horrible things and more, and childbirth is the worst.

Nemo,

What are you even talking about, here?

Nemo,

It didn’t get replaced. Both exist side-by-side.

And frankly, I can take a punch in person but will still not stand for people being incivil in my online discussion spaces.

Nemo,

instances DO run alongside each other

Nemo,

There are many helpful bots, like the one that corrects community links to be instance-neutral.

Nemo,

Not trying to take a stab; trying to share a different perspective.

Nemo,

I feel the opposite. If someone goes on an “Ask” community and is responding to most answers, it feels like they’re trying to push an agenda. The polite thing, in my mind, is upvote the answers you get and only respond to ask clarifying questions or maaaaybe say thanks if anything is particularly insightful or helpful.

Nemo,

Do you plan to create communities? If so, choose the instance where the communities best fit the theme of that instance.

Nemo,

Just turned forty, don’t work in tech. Yeah, I know I’m the weirdo here.

Though it does seem so far like lemmings act less teenaged than redditors.
