Nemo,

Oops, thought you meant “a break from being tolerant” and I was like, yeah, stop putting up with bullshit!

Nemo,

I would use one, I’m not opposed, but I’ve just never bothered. I don’t use a lot of sites with prominent ads.

Which of the U.S. national parks in this image do you think is the most worth visiting? There are three exceptions. (lemmy.world)

We’re talking about a vacation this summer so we can plan ahead. My mother (who will pay for it) said she’d love to go to Yellowstone, but it looks like it’s about a 24-hour drive for us. Still, I like the idea of going to a national park. We’re in Indiana, so this image shows about the limits of where we’re willing to...

Nemo,

Haha fair. I really liked Turkey Run when I went there, is all.

But seriously, check out Pipestone.

Nemo,

I’ve only been to Indiana Dunes and Voyageurs, but they’re both nice enough. Voyageurs is like, bring a canoe and camping supplies, though, not necessary a day trip.

Consider some state parks! Turkey Run in Indiana is gorgeous, and Pipestone State Park in Minnesota is beautiful, historical, and unique.

Nemo,

You don’t need superpowers to turn humans into food…

Nemo,

It all started with the Cubs winning the 2016 World Series. They didn’t break the curse, they somehow transferred it to the rest of us.

Nemo,

The books share a backdrop but have very different themes.

Nemo,

Consider Phlebas is about an assassin hiding out in a crew of pirates! In space!

Nemo,

Earthsea by a country mile.

Nemo,

No, I came because of:

  • the removal of essential moderation tools
  • the insertion of ads and promoted content
  • the huge data requirements of the official app

So kind of the opposite of censorship. I came because there’s too much low-quality content.

Nemo,

Because the buses start running at 4am.

Nemo,

None. Chicago doesn’t flood, have earthquakes, get wildfires, get hurricanes, get droughts. Tornados dissipate once they hit the urban heat bubble. It barely even blizzards here, once or twice a year at most.

True, we did burn down once. But now we’re very aggressive about fire safety and prevention.

Nemo,

I think I could really only live in Chicago, Toronto, or Minneapolis.

Nemo,

Sometimes it is, yes. It’s no secret that white supremacists, whatever their stances on political or economic issues, will hide their social views behind the label of conservatism. Thankfully, society has started to move past them, and they can rightfully be decried as regressive.

Nemo,

Okay, having read both articles just now, I have serious critiques.

The first fails to either prove it’s thesis or, somehow, understand the ethos of liberalism. Very good write-up of the rise of fascism and its causes, though. Overall not a bad article but unconvincing.

The second conflates capitalism and liberalism and jumps between one and the other nonsensically, making it essentially all noise.

Nemo,

nice even wings, picks a safe milkweed plant to lay its eggs on, that sort of thing

Nemo,

I set aside an hour in the morning, best after exercise, to think about the future and write down what I need to do. Then the rest of the day I do what’s in front of me and work my way through the to-do list without having to spend too much mental energy on it.

Nemo,

We’re more or less born being able to “read” facial expressions and tone of voice. IDK about body language.

Nemo,

It’s from 1984. The book, not the year.

Nemo,

I’m not European or from an Atlantic island, so my opinion isn’t worth squat. I’m seeking understanding, not trying to spread my own.

Nemo,

Is Britain even considered to be “in” Europe? That’s like saying Iceland is in Europe.

Nemo,

Johnny Mnemonic sort of blurs the cyberpunk / biopunk line a bit, since Molly is a main character.

Nemo,

Fanfictions are original works using the setting or characters of another work.

If you change some things and republish, that’s an adaptation.

For example, the recent film Fire Island was an adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
