Ookami38,

I make an effort. The truth is there are s9 many things that are Nestle with no Nestle on the packaging due to the different layers of subsidiary companies. It’s practically impossible to completely avoid them without some smart phone app, database, etc (which may even be inaccurate) or a fuckin encyclopedic knowledge of the different brands lmao. Shits fucked, yo.

Ookami38,

I’m not against people making money, I’m against people making money hand over fist with the level of effort I exert taking my morning shit, off the backs of people trying to scrape by.

A regular guy who’s a landlord np. Once it becomes your primary investments vector and you’re NOT giving that little extra effort of moving stuff to the basement, once you stop being a person who is a landlord and just become Landlord, it’s shit.

Ookami38,

I did, in fact die. God is real, but it’s complicated. Eat your vegetables. Your mom was always proud.

Ookami38,

If you’re that concerned about every “troglodyte” out there doing anything that may remotely spread a couple of germs, I advise you wear a hazmat suit when you go out. And when you’re inside. Just, always. Life’s filthy, take precautions before you put something in your body (wash it, cook it, etc) but past that, man… good luck.

Ookami38,

My guess is a lot of people smoking a bowl over it being actually on the books as legal now, rather than they’re only just now comfortable smoking.

Ookami38,

I’m in a unique and enviable position where my work is basically nothing on the day to day. It pays enough to get by, barely, but it gives me so much free time that well… That aspect of work makes me happy lmao

Ookami38, (edited )

It’s hardly dismissive. If there’s a lack of unions in a field, how does that problem get resolved? By starting one.

Sure they could provide more resources and information , except oh wait, someone else literally a post above did.

No one ever said starting one is easy, like anything worth doing it’s a LOT of work, but that’s a complete different matter than the comment being “actively unhelpful, [or] dismissive”

Edit:it was the same guy who posted the comment with more information. Maybe instead of you being actively unhelpful and dismissive, ask questions about the process, seek help, and don’t just dismiss what someone else said.

Ookami38,

Meh. I’d rather work on my mental and physical health and spend time doing the things that make me happy.

Ookami38,

Que?

Ookami38,

Yeah it was a Chinese woman and her child. I linked it further up, but from the sounds of it maybe don’t go looking for my link lol

Ookami38,

Man, I get it. I’m at that point, too. In a lot of ways society has failed all of us.

Society is also a large vessel that takes lifetimes to change. Essentially, the kind of thing one man can do barely anything about. Not that we shouldn’t try, but… Well, to quote Stephen King, “pray for water, but dig a well while you wait.”

I think the best way to describe it is, if I feel content, it’s a sense of stability within myself - a sense that I’m grounded, and going to get through. Some of my needs right now are going under-fulfilled, but that won’t be eternal. I’m uncomfortable now, but discomfort doesn’t mean I’m in a situation where I should panic and start grasping at the first possible way to fulfill my needs. Instead, I can be comfortable in my discomfort, think about what my needs actually are, and create a plan to fulfill those needs in a more healthy and sustainable manner.

Ookami38,

Those items are a bit trickier for sure. There’s a biological need for them and so they can be pressing. There’s a certain bare minimum that yeah, you can’t just not have. Anything past that, though, past the absolute critical for life level, is something you can learn to be content with, learn to not desire more than, and instead just be thankful for the excess above starvation that you enjoy in this moment.

Ookami38,

What part of that mentality, exactly? Break it down for me.

Ookami38, (edited )

Feelings of extreme loneliness. Accepting that, despite having a very real need (community, belonging, connection) not being met at the moment doesn’t mean that it ever will be, and I can actually be okay being uncomfortable, but still content.

Ookami38,

I think you pretty well nailed my view of contentedness with your paragraph starting “if you’re lonely…”. That’s pretty much how I see it. It’s a state of being okay, despite some needs not being met in the moment. Tend to urgent needs, be ok with some less urgent ones sitting for a bit, accept things you have no control over, and work towards bettering your position overall, instead of sitting and wallowing in the self-pity mire.

Ookami38,

I like the idea of everything is best-case. So a trained pup, a loaded gun with couple of boxes of spare ammo, a new jeep with a full tank, etc.

Ookami38,

This isn’t exactly a formal writing space. I post almost exclusively from my phone. I’m a terrible type on my phone, freely admitted, but I do what I can to correct things. Sometimes it just gets missed, though. I make an effort to edit, but at the end of the day, this is just going to a bunch of dummies on the Internet, not someone who matters to my life. I’ll put in exactly what I feel is the appropriate effort.

Ookami38,

You REALLY think that’s a way to enlightenment? Yeah, of course you do …

Ookami38,

I still “use reddit” in this way, too, mostly that the top and beat results for obscure information tend to be reddit, but I don’t consider this “using” reddit, personally

Ookami38,

I had a roommate who did that. The number of times I stabbed myself with that begs to disagree lol.

Ookami38,

Friends. Family. Building facilities. Government programs.

The simple fact is that at some point, people just can’t be completely independent. It’s the nature of growing old. This is only really a problem because we have such a strict independence culture, where if you can’t do for yourself, you may as well just die, society doesn’t have time for you.

If we recontextualize this, and see growing old and more feeble not as some personal failing and instead as the symbol of a long life, if we start looking out for those around us, and if we start building up the facilities we need to allow people to gracefully enter elder-hood without stigma, we’d all be a bit better off.

Ookami38,

Depends. Do you like great movies? If not, probably skip it

Ookami38,

We’re not arguing that there are lists. We’re arguing that it’s not always displayed on packaging. Subsidiary companies of nestle may not display the logo or name anywhere, or do so in such small lettering that it’s very hard to overlook. When the other commenter is saying all it takes is “a bit of discipline” no, that’s simply not the case. It takes discipline AND either an external resource, or an encyclopedic knowledge of every company nestle owns. If you want to sling insults at people at least understand what they’re saying.
