Inspired by a post that popped on lemmy world today about Weird Al it got me thinking. I listed out a bunch of names but the one that I think fits the most would probably be Surfan Stevens. Who do you all think?
In art school my professor talked about how you’ll only start getting grant money after you’ve become successful and don’t really need it anymore. He also talked about how rich housewives end up making really good art because they don’t have to worry about making sellable art.
He was totally right. Being a working artist is a grind.
Wow. Never heard of that! I’m sorry that I got you started, but now I have so many questions!
Do the tailors have anything to do with Christmas, or is that unrelated? What do they do with the thumbs? Is it a special band of mythical tailors or just your everyday cut/sew guy from down the street? What is it about thumbsucking that brings them so much ire?
That’s awesome. Thank you for the breakdown! I’m a bit invested in the story as I’m an upholsterer and wondered if I wasn’t keeping up with the trade mythology.
For the record, neither of my kids sucked their thumb…
On version 0.19 you can block instances so that you don’t see any posts from that instance, instead of having to block communities one by one, you still see comments from users of that instance in other posts so it isn’t completely blocking the instance.
I treat this place as reverse reddit. You can’t browse by subscribed because then you see 4 posts. But it’s hard to find the communities I might like. So I browse by all and block things I don’t want to see like foreign language, tentacle porn and Linux communities. That way I still see new communities I might like and get an endless scroll.
The USS Monitor was an ironclad warship used by the Union Navy during the US Civil War. It was a radical design that sat low on the waterline to present a very small target, and had a revolving turret rather than a broadside battery. The turret traversed with steam power, being about to make a full rotation in just under 23...
People made this joke about my art degree (textiles) but I’ve had a career for 25 years and my mortgage is about to be paid off in April. So, eat a dick 🫳🎤

I’m on team inch. I think the metric system has been pushed by Big Socket to sell more wrenches. If they made a meter equal a yard we could be bilingual and use the most appropriate system for the job.
