Perfide, to mildlyinteresting in "Do you live in the Midwest?" by self-report

Because the US expanded from the east coast towards the west. The midwest is west of the OG colonies, but not as far west as, well, the west.

Which was only made because people got incest vibes from the original…

Perfide, to asklemmy in What are some companies that deserve to be boycotted to death?

As far as which companies “deserve” it, it would be quicker to list the ones that don’t.

Ew, no.

So your whole point is a slippery slope fallacy. Gotcha.

Perfide, to memes in O.O

Agreed. Even assuming you know the person wants a pet and can handle a pet, you’re still robbing them of choice in what pet they get. The poodle is cute and all, but little timmy really would’ve preferred a border collie.

Pretty much the only scenario I can agree with gifting a pet is if you know they want one, know they can handle one, and finally when it comes to the actual gift giving, it starts off with a trip to the animal shelter so they can pick their own companion.

You lost me on the section when you started going into different calculators, but I read the rest of the post. Well written even if I ultimately disagree!

The reason imo there is ambiguity with these math problems is bad/outdated teaching. The way I was taught pemdas, you always do the left-most operations first, while otherwise still following the ordering.

Doing this for 6÷2(1+2), there is no ambiguity that the answer is 9. You do your parentheses first as always, 6÷2(3), and then since division and multiplication are equal in ordering weight, you do the division first because it’s the left most operation, leaving us 3(3), which is of course 9.

If someone wrote this equation with the intention that the answer is 1, they wrote the equation wrong, simple as that.

This. They really need to start including both low dynamic range AND high dynamic range audio options in home/streaming releases of movies, and TV should exclusively be LDR if they can’t simulcast the the different audio signals.

HDR audio sounds amazing and is totally worth it when you have the right audio equipment, so it shouldn’t stop existing entirely, but it’s bullshit that people that don’t have that equipment get an even worse experience than LDR as a result.

It’s so blind people who use screen readers can still enjoy the meme.

How dare you! I AM the nephew that sets up their computers for them, and I install Firefox.

Perfide, to asklemmy in If you got COVID and lost the ability to taste things, did it ever come back? Otherwise, did you experience any other long term consequences from the pandemic in general?

My sense of taste was dulled and my sense of smell was totally 100% gone(I’m certain I could’ve been sprayed directly by a skunk and still smelt nothing at all) for about a month, with them slowly going back to normal over the course of another month or so. I also developed minor brain fog, which still hasn’t fully left over 3 years later.

Squirt, the soda.

Killing the API made modding on mobile harder, but it mostly didn’t affect desktop mod tools. Killing old.reddit would be a huge deal.
