They come and go. They’re random clutter. We only need a few big instances that hosts a majority of the communities and that’s it. Why do we need so many smaller ones?
Theres been a lot of really amazing looking animated films by indie studios in china but sadly some of them are exclusively available to chinese viewers via geoblocking. Anyone here able to download and share them?...
Around here (Aus) it has been a tradition for generations to leave a beer out for Santa as he no doubt could do with a break during the long night dropping off presents.
I agree but a direct adaptation of the books would not make a good TV show.
The books are a series of vignettes spaced decades apart with no continuing characters and each is a separate short story. While they work in the written form, they would not on the screen.
I was having a conversation with my friend about this. We were discussing AI and she believes AI will destroy all of humanity just like so many others. I personally don’t believe that. I’m aware of all the theories and the multitude of ways that it could happen and I understand that with AI, in theory we wouldn’t...
One possibility: It is a weird case of "this moment in time is special because I am alive".
Humans have been around for thousands of years but I am alive now. I cannot think of what the world could be like without me so therefore the human race must end in my lifetime.
This in not a new occurrence either, there have been "end of the world" groups in almost every generation in history.
It is worth noting that people always think the apocalyptic event will happen within their lifetime.
The only real difference now is that the end of the world is now caused by humans via nukes or destruction of the environment rather than supernatural forces.
I was wondering who is going to pay for the reconstruction of all the razed apartment buildings, schools and hospitals in Gaza? Are the US and Europe going to do that, or is Israel going to do at least this?...
Comfort eating is one of the hardest addictions to break because unlike drugs, you cannot go cold turkey and stop.
Most of us have never actually been hungry and eat because it is lunchtime or because we are sad and want to distract ourselves.
What worked for me was fasting. It was incredibly hard at first but it did reset my relationship with food. My stomach now decides when and what I eat, not my mind.
First off: This post is about a tiny Leatherman multitool. Not a gun, not a sword, not something that can actually hurt someone. Just a small, harmless tool that is unfairly banned from planes because of onerous TSA regs. No one is going to do 9/11 with tiny pliers and a fingernail-sized screwdriver....
Here it is. He says “Cindy and I are breaking up” - then proceeds with the review of Laphroaig 10 Year Single Malt Scotch, which he tells us has been his go-to single malt - it’s a “no compromise” Malt, he assures us.
Still vividly remember the day I saw and plated Space Invaders (1979) for the first time. I was walking home from primary school and there was a new machine, that Was Not Pinball!, in the arcade (called pinball parlours then).
I watched for about 30 minutes while I waited my turn, played 2 games and was hooked and still am 45 years later.
Sorry to do that, but I believe the world makes a lot more sense when viewed through the lens of punctuated equilibrium. It does not make things better, just makes the chaos more understandable.
The dot com bubble.
The housing bubble.
Basically every economic bubble all the way back to tulip mania.
The Arab Spring.
The changes in the USA post 9/11.
And most disturbing of all, the recent rapid swing of pretty much all environmental indicators into uncharted territory. Our biosphere may be heading into a phase of rapid change.
