PowerCrazy,

When a certain popular president and congress passed the bail-out of the domestic vehicle industry, written by the same in 2008 that allowed such vehicles to be more profitable then a smaller cars, he was awarded a noble prize and reelected in a landslide.

PowerCrazy,

Why not? It’s obviously a huge hazard and people can’t be trusted to use it safely. So for the public health and safety this road should be closed. This also means the poor council doesn’t need to maintain this road anymore saving money in the long run. Maybe a train could even replace where the road was increases throughput and safety for everyone.

PowerCrazy,

If the road is dangerously designed, close the road.

PowerCrazy,

Sounds like they need to increase road taxes then which will have the helpful knock-on affect of reducing the number of cars on the road.

PowerCrazy,

Unlimited funding for speed camera’s and kickbacks, zero funding for road redesign? That sounds really safe!

PowerCrazy,

I don’t drive. But when when did you stop beating your wife?

PowerCrazy,

Something people overlook when the word “loophole” is used in federal regulation. Mot of the time those loopholes are intentionally put there so that the industry that is the target of regulation doesn’t have to do anything. And since congressmen don’t actually write regulation, understand what they are regulating, nor give a fuck about anything besides getting paid, they all vote for legislation that has those “loopholes,” and can shrug their shoulders when the “intent” of the regulation is ignored.

PowerCrazy,

My Alderman rides his bike down to city hall pretty regularly, I think him and a few of the other aldermen meet up occasionally to all bike to work. It’s pretty great. The city is still way to car-centric though.

PowerCrazy,

Cars have been normalized. Fortunately e-scooters haven’t. So fighting against e-scooters as run and deployed by private companies is a good fight.

PowerCrazy,

This is a cool proof of concept and pretty easy to adapt for almost any purpose not just text. I don’t think it’s “useful” but then again “usefulness” isn’t exactly well defined in the first place.

What modes of transport do you really like?

For me personally, trams are right up there. Aside from the main issue of sharing the roads instead of having a dedicated line, they really make it easy to get from one part of a city to another, especially for wheelchair users. They’re usually as frequent as buses, but much faster. The stations are much more attractive...

  • PowerCrazy,

I’m not worried about needing to vote for either of them. As a leftist I care more about the ideas being pushed in various ways, not the people who say them. The ideas being pushed by nikki are the same as hillary. A war on “disinformation” requires verification of who said something, Nikki is just advocating for the next step., De-anonymizing.

Yet I doubt you cared in 2016, so why do you care now?

    PowerCrazy,

What should the government do about “misinformation” and how is it materially different then what Nikki Haley “vows” to do?

    PowerCrazy,

From the article: “The technology platforms are so much more powerful than any organ of the so-called mainstream press, and I do think that there has to be not just an American reckoning but a global reckoning with the disinformation, with the monopolistic power and control, with the lack of accountability that the platforms currently enjoy,” Clinton said.

How is that materially different then what Haley said?

    PowerCrazy,

I didn’t realize Hillary Clinton was running in the Republican National Convention. But it makes sense that the parties of Capital both want to control non-monetized social media.

For context, remember 2016 when Hillary went to war against “anonymous” what do you think she mean by that?

    Or this? theguardian.com/…/hillary-clinton-guardian-disinf…

    PowerCrazy,

    Should be $3000.

    PowerCrazy,

Anyone who thinks cars are a solution to anything is my enemy.

    PowerCrazy,

The only solution EVs provide is a pathway for automotive companies to continue to exist. They solve nothing and their existence continues to enable suburban sprawl, lack of public transportation, and the alienation of a car-centric society. You are trash for supporting EVs and you aren’t interested in a better world, one without cars.

    PowerCrazy,

Ive heard of it, and want to use it, but unfortunately the only reason Im still sticking with instagram is because I have very dear friends who would never change to anything non-mainstream.

This is called the network effect, it’s a social problem and no amount of technology will solve this. So your choices are either to stop using apps where you are the product, and obviously convince your friends to stop that as well, or grin and bear it. Maybe think about what you did 20 years ago and do that instead.

    PowerCrazy,

Just claim sovereign immunity, bing boom, so simple. (I have no idea what the consequences of that owuld be, or what the legal outcome would look like.)

    PowerCrazy,

My ideal world is one where the population of humanity exceeds 10trillion, but the population of earth is <100,000 permanent residents with yearly visitation from tourism etc exceeds 100million thanks to the series of space elevators that have been built. The majority of humanity are living in space at various Lagrange points in O’Neill cylinders and at least a quarter of humanity are in living in generation ships traveling to distant stars many that are >10pc away.
The Asteroid Belt has been mostly mined out though that isn’t much of a problem as fission/fusion generation supplementing the solar dyson ring has transformed us firmly into a type 1 civilization.

    PowerCrazy,

I’d say that charity as it exists in a capitalist society is in itself evil, and contributing to it is no better then buying indulgences.

Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?

Hi, I am a guy in early thirties with a wife and two kids and whenever I go on youtube it always suggests conservative things like guys dunking on women, ben shapiro reacting to some bullshit, joe rogan, all the works. I almost never allow it to go to that type of video and when I do it is either by accident or by curiosity. My...

    PowerCrazy,

The algorithm wants engagement first and foremost (positive vs negative is irrelevant), after that it wants to push view points that preserve the status quo since change is scary to shareholders. So of course capitalist/fascist propaganda is preferred especially if the host is wrong about basic facts (being wrong drives engagement.)

    PowerCrazy,

What specifically do you want lemmy mods to “stop?” What kind of lies are they spreading? What do you consider disinformation. Complaining that your world view isn’t being catered to is a lot less useful then pointing out specific things you find sus.
