SeaJ, to memes in Vegan food: The west vs India

Most vegans in the US do not eat food that mimics meat.

Most Western butt holes cannot handle Indian food that well. The couple times I went to Indian weddings, I was clamoring for anything that would not burn my butthole. The good combined with the ridiculous amount of alcohol made the toilets cry.

SeaJ, to upliftingnews in India succeeds in reducing emissions rate by 33% over 14 years

India’s rate of emissions intensity - the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions emitted for every unit increase of gross domestic product (GDP) - fell by 33%

It’s important to note that emissions did not decrease, the rate of the increase decreased.

Filling out your Linux ISO library, I see.

SeaJ, to news in Expel all Palestinians from Gaza, recommends Israeli gov't ministry

If you are going to push for moving 2.2 million people to the Sinai Penninsula (population 600k), you might want to ask Egypt if they are okay with that since that is their territory. Considering their hostility towards Palestinians in the past, I am guessing they would not be keen on the idea.

But let’s just call this idea what it really is: ethnic cleansing.

SeaJ, to asklemmy in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?

Your interests have a strong correlation with people on the right aside from maybe react videos.

But even if your interested were not so strongly correlated with the right, you would probably still get right wing ads or videos suggested. They garner the highest engagement because it is often outrage porn. Google gets their money that way. My subscriptions are to let wing political channels, science, and solar channels but I still get a decent amount of PragerU and Matt Walsh ads. Reporting then does not stop them from popping up either.

SeaJ, to mildlyinteresting in in Australia, when we pay taxes, we get a receipt. The receipt shows what our taxes were spent on

Most can. The DoD has consistently failed for years. Yet we still keep ballooning their budget.

SeaJ, to upliftingnews in Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena is the first arena in the world to land Zero Carbon certification

Slightly ironic that Amazon basically dropped their climate pledge.

The fiber is not the issue. I’m good on that. It was the spiciness that was the problem. I can handle a little bit of spice but there was pretty much no reprieve.

These pictures are 18 years apart. Life in an impoverished place can age you quite a bit.

They still had chattel slavery while the Republic was around and it was controlled by a mafia family and they had to constantly be on the lookout for the Native population that did not like them being there.

Or check out pictures of impoverished farmers in the Great Depression. Even the 18 year olds looked old. Here is homesteader Jim Norris at 37 years old:

Three or four bags of groceries is totally doable on a bus or train.

How many people called you stupid for buying meat free alternatives? I largely do not eat meat and I can count on one hand the number of times it has been mentioned in the past decade. It’s also only comparatively expensive because meat is so subsidized.

I mostly do not eat meat because it is fucking terrible for the environment.

There is also open source software.

SeaJ, to asklemmy in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

I finally dropped my S10e too many times. I tried switching to my backup phone which was a Pixel 2 but it is pretty limited in terms of bands for my carrier. So I bought a Pixel 6a. I would love a Zenfone 9 but it is a tad pricey.

Would I have upgraded of my phone hadn’t died? Probably. It stopped receiving security updates. The battery was starting to not last all day. There were some things it was starting to get slow on. The camera was okay in good lighting but shit in bad lighting.

Newer phones are not actually selling all that well. Still good but there aren’t really likes it the door on release day like there used to be. People are keeping their phones for a lot longer now or opting for midrange ones.
