Heat pumps only last about 15 years so yours may be noisier due to wear and age. I just had a really old one replaced and my new one is a lot quieter.

The problem is that I have to live next to those people for the other 11 months

It's not even crime. Cities are safer. It's the feeling of never being truly alone. I miss it so...

How about this: The government pays to create public transit and then loans it to a private company to run for 50 years?

They're doing it with highways, after all.

And so, from all of us here at Starfleet to all of you out there, wherever you are: Remember, the light at the end of the wormhole may be you.

The garbage disposal fail ($300 for a new disposal; $450 for the plumber because I got in over my head);

This seems a little outrageous. Garbage disposals are about $150 new, and I have no plumbing experience and can swap one out in less than 15 minutes. Unless you seriously damaged some pipes or the plumber was getting double time I have no idea why it would cost that much.

I think it’s because people would puke in the pool and they didn’t want to keep cleaning it up, so you wait 30 minutes to help prevent that.

The "fast pace" comes from your boss changing your tasks every five minutes, micromanaging you, and being verbally abusive.

Yes, especially when I have time to ketchup on all the ones that have been posted

I just deleted my entire library and redownloaded it.

A lot of my files were shitty 480p versions of movies from the Napster days. Now they’re all 1080p, with a few 720p exceptions (mainly tv series episodes). All in all 500 something files in total. Now just watching uTorrent slowly download them all. Hopefully my VPN keeps the eyes off of me…

All the other services I have running are on a server in my closet, which I access with a web browser from other devices. Calibre needing to run on my workstation is a big shift in that workflow. Especially because all the rest of my media is sitting on that server.

Also, UX of open source desktop apps is… lacking. They don’t look good, and they don’t feel good to use. But that might be because I’m picky and spoiled by decades of using a Mac.

I definitely don’t want more Electron apps. About the only things I want to run locally is a browser, a text editor, and a terminal.

I tried that but you need a Calibre library first, and that requires using Calibre AFAIK

While it's true that Hamas was elected, half of the people living in Gaza aren't old enough to vote and there hasn't been an election since 2006.

Mine makes yogurt from milk and yogurt.

It’s a perpetual yogurt machine.

And it makes chili!

My gf's roommate was flipping through his phone one night and said "I'm feeling like Indian tonight."

She said "Oh, get me some chicken biryani!"

He said "Not that kind of Indian" and showed her he was flipping through Grindr

Maybe the machine also does it with less waste and more consistently, the same reason woodworkers make jigs for complex cuts or identical parts.

My younger sister is FTM. She's always been a loud asshole, and I had hoped that maybe living as a man was the cause of it. Nope, still a loud asshole. Just with different hardware. Love her to death, though.

Way better than my crackhead Trump-supporting older sister.
