If he wants something similar to windows, get Linux mint, it’s the best parts of Debian/Ubuntu but made modern. If you can do it on Ubuntu, you can do it in mint (like online guides cuz mint is based on ubuntu if you couldn’t tell).

I keep dual windows on laptop for rare occasions cuz I don’t like dealing with passthrough for special USB cables that require their own drivers on VMs

Well USB to serial port to some weird custom 6 pin connector for a certain machine.

When I started using Linux I distro hopped a few times before finding mint, now I have been stuck on mint for a few years, but I still dream of hopping again.

When I was hopping I was in high school, so I had time, now I got to work and hopping takes too much time and effort to set everything up again. If I had a second pc or a laptop I would do it.

I second this, Ubuntu gnome feels more like Mac UI in my opinion.

Looking for Notes App for Android & Linux

I am trying to slowly de-Google-ify myself by moving to open source apps, I wanna ditch google notes and evernote. I tried obsidian, standard notes, and joplin, I liked using obsidian on PC and standard notes looks nice on android but obsidian you need to pay to have sync and standard notes doesn’t do markdown unless you pay...

should my next browser installed be Microsoft Edge?? (lemmy.world)

I have installed the big 2 browsers on my Ubuntu!! I love them!! I use Google Chrome more of course n.n but I was wondering if I should get Edge now, I like the cute design + AI integration, but I don’t think it’s necessary because I already have Chromium, which is just the baseline for Edge, but still it could be a nice...

Help me acquire discontinued sound effect libraries please

I’m going to let you in on a little secret: Rayman for PS1, Toys VS Nightmares for PC flash, Jackie Chan Stuntmaster, and Crisis Beat all utilize some sound effect files from The Cartoon Trax 1. And right now, I’m trying to locate the source of Crisis Beat’s “anime-style” sound effects (the kind we heard in Alvin...
