Zip uses very bad encryption that is vulnerable to a known plaintext attack. Do not ever use PKZIP encryption for any purpose github.com/kimci86/bkcrack

How does Usenet content not immediately get DMCA'd into oblivion?

For instance, say I search for “The Dark Knight” on my Usenet indexer. It returns to me a list of uploads and where to get them via my Usenet provider. I can then download them, stitch them together, and verify that it is, indeed, The Dark Knight. All of this costs only a few dollars a month for me....

Supermariofan67,

It’s civil lawsuits by corporations, not state prosecution

Supermariofan67,

I’m only familiar with JAV (Japanese) content, which sukebei.nyaa.si has quite a bit of. I suggest browsing for what you want on javlibrary.com and then search for a download on nyaa

It’s been supported for several years now

Supermariofan67,

Why?

Supermariofan67,

The reason I use a swap file is so that I can have only one partition backed by LUKS disk encryption, rather than having to screw around with lvm which comes with its own performance overhead and all. I’ve personally never had issues hibernating to.it, but given how much buggy uefi firmware is out there I’m not surprised to hear that other have issues

Supermariofan67,

The problem primarily is when a niche interest becomes exploited for profit by capitalists and no longer maintains the community-oriented culture it once had.

It will lose aspects of it that make it unique and special but they don’t appeal to the general public, because ultimately making as much profit as possible means attracting as many customers as possible.

Most of the software people are suggesting here is ancient. A lot of it does not support accurip checks or drive offset correction, which I consider to be essential features. Don’t use abcde, I made that mistake a few years ago

cyanrip is definitely the way to go, there really is no alternative that has the same feature set. Other than EAC in wine if you require scorable 100% log files.

Supermariofan67,

When it was brand new there were some edge case bugs that broke on certain workflows and hardware, but that’s pretty much entirely fixed now and I’m guessing for a long time now it’s been more universally stable than pulseaudio was.

Also, some people just pointlessly dislike anything that’s new, or because it breaks their spacebar heating

Supermariofan67,

It disturbs me that we live in a time when the idea of words being copyrighted is one even worth thinking about, and that people would feel that they may have to self-censor their expression out of fear of it.

Supermariofan67,

I’ve been using Wayland on Nvidia with plasma for about a year and it’s been mostly fine. Only a few minor issues like night color not working or some Xwayland apps flickering, but the system feels far more responsive on Wayland so it’s well worth it to me

Supermariofan67,

Strictly speaking, no, since ublock origin can also disable JavaScript on pages if you toggle the option. So aside from the question of whether doing so is necessary, noscript’s script blocking functionality is entirely replaceable with ubo, which also has more advanced support for filterlists, etc that you’re probably aware of already

Supermariofan67,

Friends don’t let friends not use ublock origin

Supermariofan67,

Anki is a free and open source spaced-repetition flashcard program. You can find many premade decks for it for pretty much any language, and you can create your own cards from real-world content you read (“sentence mining”). You can also find free (or pirated) grammar guides and similar content online. These two resources will give you the foundation for making your input comprehensible, but the vast majority of the learning you’ll do will come from simply reading and listening to native content while making as much of an effort to understand it as possible (such as by looking up words in the dictionary using a browser extension like yomichan)

apps.ankiweb.net

See this really good guide for learning Japanese (some of the information applies to other languages too): learnjapanese.moe

Supermariofan67,

Just use the nicotine-plus client for soulseek instead. It’s much more stable, and it’s foss
