moreeni,

What is that supposed to mean? Is it a reference to something?

moreeni,

Privacy and programming communities. I tried to stay at Windows at first, but when I was bith recommended GNU/Linux for privacy and had to use it for programming, I knew I couldn’t keep the resistance up.

Three years later and I have 0 regrets. All games I play work, except for, recently, TF2 because of a weird malloc library issue on Arch-based systems. All apps I need just work, and whenever I need something Windows-only I have a VM setup just for that. Developing and managing your system on a Unix-like system is just so much easier.

Help me choose my mobile browser

As per title, Help me choose a browser for android I have non rooted device. After all the researches I found best for me would be 1: Mull but with Some way for knowing which site have saved any data on my device (Maybe by extension or some defined page like about:config type) But as per my research I do not found any such...

moreeni,

The system (the os files to be precise) is only mutable by package manager for specific tasks like updating. It can break certain workflows if the user wants to change system files, because they can’t.

Bonuses from that are security and reproducibility. You can be sure that whatever package you have will look and behave exactly the same as on another device with the same OS. Malware won’t be able to mess around with your OS so trivially as it does on mutable distros.

moreeni,

Excuse me, did you even read what you have linked? The first link literally explains the privacy policy of “the NewPipe’s” website.

Also, what the fuck is even newpipe.app? github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipeThe GH repo as well as the F-Droid release all link to newpipe.net and I couldn’t find any reference to the .app website there.

moreeni,

I love all of the minimalist options here, they are so cute!

moreeni,

And that’s why you need punctuation kids.

I’ve been using Youtube Music with a custom front end (Innertune app) lately and it’s a decent compromise between piracy and paying for a good streaming service — everything is free, it is streamed, I have an access to a huge library of music and the only downside is that the songs might have poorer quality

Signal's new version notification keeps popping up

Hey just wondering if its a problem on my end but a self update notification indicating a newer version of signal keeps popping up. I already have the latest version of the apk, 6.40.4, installed from their website, but the notification does not go away. I click it and then it states the application has been updated but after a...

moreeni,

Same on LineageOS. Force stopping the app and starting it again helps, but it will pop up again in some time. Helps if you find it annoying though.

moreeni,

It does because it’s code you have to take into account when adding new features. Basically unnecessary pain in the ass.

moreeni,

Have you even been following what images AI can generate now? Every work is original, it doesn’t just copy and paste pixels.

moreeni,

Neither Matrix nor XMPP are software, those are protocols. Alsp, there is no point in specifying that XMPP is encrypted without doing the same for Matrix, since you can exchange plain text messages there too.

As for the actual question, here you go: www.privacyguides.org/…/real-time-communication/#…

moreeni,

The author was a guest on the Changelog podcast. The episode was an interesting one, I highly recommend it

moreeni,

I use a second browser too, actually. Still, I would like the ease of using the default browser instead of copy-pasting every such URL

moreeni,

uBlock blocks fingerprinting scripts completely. You can also enable scripts individually with it and thus remove the need for NS, which does the same but less

moreeni,

“communism 2.0” proceeds to link an article about a leading capitalist country

moreeni,

Sometimes the block is on whole different level than a DNS

moreeni,

It’s pretty much the only way they enforce stuff here in Ukraine. Back in 2015 when the government blocked social media websites tied to Russian companies and in 2022 when .ru domains were blocked, changing your DNS provider didn’t help. I’m not sure about piracy sites, though, because everyone kinda doesn’t care about this stuff here, but I don’t think they would invent other mechanisms when they have a working one that doesn’t rely on DNS.

moreeni,

I haven’t visited the site intentionally from my devices in years

Where to get Minecraft for Arch Linux from?

Arrrr my fellow pirates. Since I’m very unexperienced with the seas I ask for you guys, where can I get Minecraft from for Arch Linux. It’s not because I’m not willing to pay 20€ but because Microsoft is a giant bitch and I’m not willing to put money in their mouth(especially after they changed their privacy policy).

moreeni,

Since it is hosted on GitHub, I assume I should search for the binary elsewhere. Or does it automatically download it from somewhere?..

moreeni,

I mean the binary, y’know, the game one. They can’t be seriously allowed to distribute this on Github, can they?
