moreeni,

Changing the remote should be fairly trivial with enough bash skills

moreeni,

iVPN has Multi-hop feature, which looks similar to what you described in the post. Speaking of it, thanks for the detailed explanation!

moreeni,

They rent their servers, so it depends on what you consider as running the server. They have virtual access to it, but they don’t own the hardware. At least, that’s the case for countries I checked, maybe they have their own servers somewhere too.

moreeni,

You can dig as much shit on Mozilla. Every big browser company right now is shitty

moreeni,

What? I’m really struggling to see why this comment is upvoted and the article is downvoted. The article doesn’t contradict anything in this comment

moreeni,

Thanks to the CNN overlords for caring about privacy. Blatant liars.

moreeni,

FreeTube with local API works good. Same with NewPipe

Newbies need a place to hang out at, so that’s OK for them to post something like that in this community, IMO.

But I, too, have been growing increasingly tired of beginner posts, which ultimately led to the creation of !gnulinux

Feel free to pay it a visit if you wish to filter out at least some of such content.

P.S. The timing of your post is almost the same of that I made the community. Did you post here because you saw the promo or was it just a coincidence?

"Must Try" distros and DEs?

Hey folks! I’m getting a fresh laptop for the first time in about a decade (Framework 16) in a couple of months and am looking forward to doing some low-level tinkering both on the OS and hardware. I’m planning to convert into a “cyberdeck” with quick-release hinges for the screen since I usually use an HMD, built-in...

moreeni,

We just had a post about Distrobox earlier today. It gives you the same funstionality on any distro.

moreeni,

It doesn’t but it is not the proper syntax in the parent comment.

moreeni,

wdym “what do you guys think”? Security is about your threat model, how can anybody recommend you taking security measures if they don’t know what and whom are you trying to secure your OS from?

Kicksecure tries to fix many problems of unhardened distros. If you happen to run potential malware that exploits the Linux kernel on a daily basis then Kicksecure is good as a daily driver. Otherwise, hell no, it breaks too many things for people with the threat model of “I don’t want to be tracked by advertisers”.

moreeni,

If you’re on Plasma, then why not go with Akgregator?

moreeni,

There are lots of services like that. Since you are on the PrivacyGuides community, here you go with the ones PG recommends: www.privacyguides.org/en/email/#email-aliasing-se

moreeni,

Such as? I’ve been looking to buy one recently. Are there any you could recommend for an amateur that wants to host totally random small services on a microcomputer?

I'm getting doxxed by a troll

I got doxxed by a troll on a forum , the troll posted my real full name and school including my grade level , pics of a Facebook account which the troll thinks it’s me but isn’t because I don’t have any mainstream socials. The troll keeps pasting my name and pics from the Facebook profile everywhere on the forum, what do I...

moreeni, (edited )

Delete all data from the previous account and make a new one. Report the troll to moderators. Consider never visiting that place again if the mods won’t help you with the harassment.

If the troll doesn’t have access to the forum’s server, then all you have to do is learn some opsec and be aware of what you share with strangers on the Internet.

If the troll does have access to the server and you absolutely need to visit the forum (which I’d advise not to in such a case), then in addition to what has been said above, use VPN with a hardened browser or Tor to access the forum.

moreeni,

I’m so hyped up I could get a Plasma6 tattoo

moreeni,

Brother, it has servers all over the world (including the US) where it hosts your data unencrypted. Telegram is nearly not inifinitely better than WhatsApp.

moreeni,

Privacy and programming communities. I tried to stay at Windows at first, but when I was bith recommended GNU/Linux for privacy and had to use it for programming, I knew I couldn’t keep the resistance up.

Three years later and I have 0 regrets. All games I play work, except for, recently, TF2 because of a weird malloc library issue on Arch-based systems. All apps I need just work, and whenever I need something Windows-only I have a VM setup just for that. Developing and managing your system on a Unix-like system is just so much easier.

moreeni,

What is that supposed to mean? Is it a reference to something?

Help me choose my mobile browser

As per title, Help me choose a browser for android I have non rooted device. After all the researches I found best for me would be 1: Mull but with Some way for knowing which site have saved any data on my device (Maybe by extension or some defined page like about:config type) But as per my research I do not found any such...

moreeni,

Excuse me, did you even read what you have linked? The first link literally explains the privacy policy of “the NewPipe’s” website.

Also, what the fuck is even newpipe.app? github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipeThe GH repo as well as the F-Droid release all link to newpipe.net and I couldn’t find any reference to the .app website there.

moreeni,

The system (the os files to be precise) is only mutable by package manager for specific tasks like updating. It can break certain workflows if the user wants to change system files, because they can’t.

Bonuses from that are security and reproducibility. You can be sure that whatever package you have will look and behave exactly the same as on another device with the same OS. Malware won’t be able to mess around with your OS so trivially as it does on mutable distros.
