TheGrandNagus,

I don’t know shit about coffee, so I’m assuming you mean you make your coffee with a mid-size Volvo estate car. Pretty impressive.

TheGrandNagus,

Fedora Workstation. Couldn’t be happier.

TheGrandNagus,

Been on it since 2016. No issues.

Cope and seethe.

TheGrandNagus, (edited )

Most don’t leave their PC on overnight.

I remember when I went on my lunch break and came back to see my PC part way through upgrading to Windows 10, which I never agreed to. So yeah, Windows update can definitely act bizarrely.

Would you get this upset about someone adding a beret and a baguette to a meme about France’s government?

Or a sombrero on a meme about Mexico’s?

A tartan bonnet on a meme about Scotland’s?

A tyrolean hat on a meme about the German/Austrian governments?

A fez on a meme about Turkey’s government?

People add shit like this all the time. If you think there’s a racial hatred component to it then you need to re-evaluate yourself.

TheGrandNagus,

If you think blackface and photoshopping a fez onto a stock image character are the same then you are so deranged that you’re beyond reasoning with.

Made the switch to KDE

I’ve been using Fedora for a couple of months now, and have been loving it. Very soon after I jumped into this community (among other Linux communities) and started laughing at all the people saying “KDE rules, GNOME drools,” and “GNOME is better, KDE is for babies.” But then I thought, “Why not give KDE a try? The...

TheGrandNagus,

That is not a UX choice, not default behaviour, and has not happened to me ever, after a decade+ of use.

TheGrandNagus, (edited )

In your opinion.

I’d take Gnome anyday.

TheGrandNagus,

Imagine looking at the war on drugs, prohibition in the US, etc then thinking “I think we should ban this drug that’s already normalised and used by millions. Then nobody will use it and everything will be fine.”

It. Doesn’t. Work.

It especially wouldn’t for something as addictive as nicotine and so trivially purchasable abroad and easy to import.

Tobacco is already dying. Just let it continue to run its course.

The Unity Desktop Environment an Underrated Masterpiece (unityd.org)

Why is the unity is underrated when its what i use right now with Ubuntu Unity and its actually really great experience for my 2021 HP Stream 11 Laptop and i hope you all to share your experiences using the unity de in Debain Ubuntu Arch Fedora Gentoo Opensuse Etc thanks for your Amazing community my Wonderful Friends

TheGrandNagus,

Unity was fine, I used it. But the fact I’ve never tried to replicate that workflow since moving on from Ubuntu is pretty telling.

Using stock Gnome on Fedora Workstation now and couldn’t be happier.

TheGrandNagus,

100% agreed. I’m only talking about what I think is the most likely in some fantasy land where manufacturers start pushing various distros/DEs.

In reality it wouldn’t happen unless a behemoth or a coalition of hardware OEMs put significant money into making it happen.

TheGrandNagus,

This must be that Biggus Dickus chap I’ve heard so much about

TheGrandNagus,

For a long time, people shat all over pipewire and said it wasn’t viable as a replacement for the existing Linux audio stack, but clearly that hasn’t ended up being the case

TheGrandNagus,

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

I might be wrong though

TheGrandNagus, (edited )

He didn’t even offer a prize at all, saying Johnny’s own human ego and pride would be his undoing, that Johnny would play just for the prize of being able to say he really is the best.

Johnny recognised what the Devil was doing, still did it anyway, and it’s heavily implied he still won regardless. Based af.

TheGrandNagus,

I actually loved that Tuvok was simultaneously psychopathic, extremely unstable, as well as violent in terms of his emotions, and yet at the same time was an almost perfect Vulcan in his ability to suppress it.

It really solidified the feeling that maybe Vulcans were right to emotionally discipline themselves the way they did, and make them look like what they do, they do out of real necessity if they want to be a civilised society, as opposed to something they just decided to do because they’re perfect space elves.

TheGrandNagus,

It certainly seems strange to me that it officially supports Ubuntu and Fedora, yet doesn’t offer the option of having it preinstalled

TheGrandNagus,

The craziest part is that Lwaxana knows how uncomfortable she’s making Picard by constantly coming onto him, because she can literally read his mind, and yet she does it anyway

TheGrandNagus,

I like it, but it’s subjective. Just try it for yourself.

I will say though to try it for a bit longer than just a few minutes. The Gnome workflow is very different to the usual Win95-inspired one pretty much everybody else uses out of the box, but once it “clicks” it’s a joy to use.

TheGrandNagus,

Ahhh the good ol’ Tucker got raped and impregnated but everyone finds it hilarious or acts like he was in the wrong episode

TheGrandNagus,

Gandalf, he’s that guy that commanded Babylon 5, right?

TheGrandNagus, (edited )

I watched that episode where the horny alien woman wanted to bang riker just the other day

Wait, shit, that’s like 60% of TNG episodes… That woman in the third row I mean

TheGrandNagus,

In fairness to KDE, yes, VMs absolutely can cause issues, and it’s likely you’d experience fewer of them if you ran it on real hardware.

But yeah, Plasma is relatively buggy. This is improving at a rapid rate, though - Plasma 4 and early Plasma 5 were straight up unusable, hence distros flocking to Gnome (KDE actually used to be the standard!)

The difference in stability between Plasma 5.27 and versions before about 5.16 is night and day. And Plasma 6 has been repeatedly pushed back so that it can be stable from the get-go.

TheGrandNagus,

The original Linux mascot almost was a Fox girl called Xenia.
