Thorny_Insight, to piracy in A better Revanced

Sadly it’s for the large part the recommendation algorithm that I’m on YouTube for. Most of the videos I watch are from people I’m not subscribed to.

please be aware you’re often a very argumentative person

I’m well aware of that. It’s the reason I’m on Lemmy on the first place. I love a good, long debate but I still try and be polite and listen to the counter-arguments and engage with what people are saying instead of attacking them as a person.

Thorny_Insight, to piracy in PSA To people watching YouTube with AdBlockers

I was having really bad time with the constant adblocker warning pop-up yesterday so I disabled all other extensions, restored uBlock Origin to the default settings aswell as cleared the catche and updated filter-lists. Then I cleared all Firefox cookies and restarted it. This morning I did not get the warning unlike the few past days, so far so good. I’m sure this isn’t a permanent fix, but for those of you still struggling with it, these are the steps you might want to try.

Aren’t most of them like that? The one I have records when the car is on and turns off when it’s not. It basically has no features at all except for the capability to record video and audio. Made by Garmin.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in What is the best option to provide for people who are homeless in the cold?

First things that comes to mind about staying warm in cold weather is wool instead of synthetics/cotton and mittens rather than gloves.

Thorny_Insight, to news in Richest 1% account for more carbon emissions than poorest 66%, report says

The most comprehensive study of global climate inequality ever undertaken shows that this elite group, made up of 77 million people including billionaires, millionaires and those paid more than US$140,000 (£112,500) a year, accounted for 16% of all CO2 emissions in 2019

So while this obviously also includes billionaires, this group still mostly consists of wealthy upper-middle class. So in other words; people that can afford a house, two cars and few trips abroad per year generate more carbon emissions than the ones that can’t. Shocker.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in Would you choose invisibility or teleportation?

Invisibility.

I don’t know why but I love the feeling of being able to watch people without them knowing about my presence. I spend a lot of time in nature and intentionally dress to blend in and I love that often when I hear/see people near me I can just stand there in plain sight and they still often don’t notice me.

Factoid

A piece of unverified or inaccurate information that is presented in the press as factual, often as part of a publicity effort, and that is then accepted as true because of frequent repetition.

After I heard even Sam Harris misuse this word I just accepted it is now a synonym for a fact despite that the original meaning is the exact opposite.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in What is your ideal Oreo dippage time? (Or your biscuit or cookie of choice.)

In Finland we have a “local Oreo” called Domino. Oreo always had this mythical reputation as a famous american cookie almost no one had tasted. Then Oreos came to the stores here for the first time so I naturally bought a pack to try them out. I never bought another one. Those are incredibly dry and dull tasting compared to the Domino cookies I’m used to.

Thorny_Insight, (edited ) to piracy in Youtube Anti-AntiAdblocker uBlock Origin Filter

I had this code saved and had suggested it to others before but now I didn’t take my own advice and had been struggling with those pop-ups for the past few days. I hope this solves it.

EDIT: Doesn’t work. Still got the popup despite having all other extensions disabled and uBlock on default settings

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in What do normal people look at on their phones?

I check the weather, use my calendar, listen to podcasts, take notes, use the camera and occasionally browse lemmy while on a toilet like now

Thorny_Insight, to lemmy_support in Banned for not breaking the rules, but disagreeing with a mod

I don’t mind a disagreement. Not at all. Infact I enjoy a good debate as long as both parties are doing it in good faith. This thread isn’t about that.

Thorny_Insight, to asklemmy in What do you follow to keep track of new media releases?

I don’t. Same as with news; if it’s important I’m going to hear about it one way or another. Otherwise I’m fine just staying out of the loop.
