I’m thanking yall for this. And also idk what so different in linux, but I just want apps on here. Like I can find an alternative, but I have to say it, most of the time it’s just worse. Like how do you replace AMD Software or Logitech Ghub or Realtek audio (or whatever is the deafult for win, it’s so seamless).
To add to this, I can install a standalone app for every feature that AMD Software has, but I don’t want to. And Ghub got de-drm-ed for like two mice, but I own a different one. Video recording and Audio settings are basically non-existen. Good luck changing the quality of your audio.
To add even more, I’m more and more used to these alternatives, so idk if I’ll still cry about it in a few years. Re-learning computers is such a pain. I hope I’ll be able to give linux to my kids as a norm (basically to use without terminal mastery).
Analyzing your comment in a different light. What your saying is if I copy my /home (someone said /etc too) over to my laptop, and back it up as well, I’m golden?
would different hostnames and usernames make a problem? As far as my knowledge goes it won’t as long as I also bring /etc over, but I have no Idea if /etc is connected to something deeper or not.
And also also, might seem like a dumb question but I had to edit a file to automount my other disks at startup, won’t it like break everything if my system only gets /home after boot or something? Caz I have enought free space to copy over my existing /home, delete it, partition, and mount it back. What’d the benefits and dangers be?
I’m having a hard time reading this comment thru the “activate Windows” text. I gtg work starts soon, I’ll react when I get home, I work as a butcher btw.
using more salt, or leaving out ingredients that one’s allergic to isn’t as hard as learning c++, understanding the codebase, knowing the external packages used, knowing your specific problem, knowing where to fix it, knowing how to fix it.
Oh wow, I feel for you. I bet when u did solve it it felt wonderful. That’s the high I’m chasing with software at least.
also side note, as I feel like this thread is over: DANG I love this platform. I’m not even alive for 20 years and your not the first guy on here who gives me free advice from 20+ years of experience. This shit is pure gold for someone who wants to learn. And it’s not even like I’m here to use people, I stayed because how kind and helpful everyone is.
Anyone who reads this in the future, you’re the good side of the internet. I’m showing some threads to my friends from time to time and if it’s more then 3 sentences they’re like “ah, wall of text, I ain readin allat”.
