Nothing on the fediverse is truly private. Treat everything you say as public and as permanent.

Who would be so pissed at lemmy.world to DDoS them?

They might want to consider using Cloudflare or a similar solution if they don’t already.

I’m planning on bringing a spare phone only on my trips to the US.

I'd be more inclined to reach out to Louis Rossmann, especially since he's said he won't post on reddit anymore. Maybe we can even find a home on lemmy for his right to repair campaign.

You don't have your post deleted for forgetting a minor rule and there's a chance that your post will be seen instead of hidden under countless new posts.

Do you need energy? So there's something called the pineapple diet (please ask your doctor first) where you eat pineapple for three days to lose weight. Biggest problem here is the spam, so I guess you'd have to use some sort of food that can be rehydrated like soylent.

I've actually gotten really good replies over a communities like !selfhosted

I did not know that. I might want to consider eating more cheese just to have more time :P

Close the windows, curtains and shades during the day, at around 8-9AM. When it’s very warm outside, open windows are your enemy.

Open windows, curtains and shades during the night when temperature is lowering.

Aside from blocking instances, what other controls do admins have to keep unwanted content off their instances?

I've fired up my own Lemmy instance, but am keeping it closed right now. It's mainly so I don't contribute to the user load on the more popular instances, but I may open it up to a circle of friends and family at some point in the future....

Purge deletes everything, including the fact that you've deleted them and they become searchable again. It's like a complete reset. Even the act of removing them is reset

You can purge, and then bring it up again and then remove if you want to delete any cached media or posts.

I just checked and even thumbnails are remote.

Wander,
@Wander@yiffit.net avatar

You can also remove specific remote communities, which bans them from your site instead of the entire remote instance. Make sure to use remove, not purge.

The community will not appear in the list nor be searchable.

Wander,
@Wander@yiffit.net avatar

Yes. That said, media uploaded by remote users is actually stored on the remote instance, not yours.

Abandoned golf courses are being reclaimed by nature (www.cnn.com)

Golf courses, despite occupying large green spaces, are not necessarily good for the environment. Land is often cleared to make way for a fairway and maintaining the pristine turf often requires a lot of water, regular mowing and the spraying of fertilizers and pesticides – none of which is good for biodiversity....

I suppose you’ve never seen snow then? Definitely try if you get some chance. I wish it snowed more often where I live.

I have no idea what the coolest temp has been for me, but probably around -10C?
