bastion,

Easy-peasey to rig. Worker co-op isn’t a bad idea.

I vote that as a second to finding a successor, and giving the whole thing to them, sans whatever kickbacks to family etc that he wants.

bastion,

It really is.

bastion,

Son/daughter would be like “ugh, this is lame, I want to play real-world games with peoples’ lives. …like, corporate wars, or screw-the-smallguy.”

Kids never handle the inheritance right, and passing on the experiences they need in order to do so is hard as fuck.

bastion,

Yeah. I now buy and play almost exclusively on Linux.

Putting back into your company is fine. It’s the endless profiteering that sucks, and that ultimately reduces customer experience. Steam keeps it’s niche specifically by producing a great customer experience, and getting out of the way.

Steam is also putting back into their company. But there’s no need for enshittification. That’s a publicly-traded-company, tragedy-of-the-commons thing.

bastion,

Honestly, an open letter couldn’t hurt.

bastion,

That just doesn’t happen to me.

I use rEFInd.

bastion,

I’m solely in the camp of who the fuck cares, anyway.

I mean, you brought it up…

bastion,

Running AMD/AMD right now for cpu/gfx, and I’m happy with my gaming laptop (and it’s price point).

Linux support and general support of open source was amajor factor in my decision. Intel is also really good on the CPU front, but I want to support AMD for its ooen source and speedy graphics offerings.

bastion,

The point of open source is kinda that you have the freedom to do as you will.

The point of packaged distros is so that you don’t have to do too much.

Do as you will, brother, do as you will.

You’re the one with issues here, I was just browsing and saw the thread and figured I’d comment.

Maybe talk to Torvalds for some recommendations.

bastion,

Indeed.

bastion,

Meh.

bastion,

It’s like btrfs, but faster, and less prone to data loss.

bastion,

Gnome stability, hands down.

My ideal OS: all of KDE’s features locked behind ‘advanced’ menus.

Acts in every other way (including stability) like Gnome.

I really want to like KDE. It just feels so much like the unnecessary is put to the front, rather than provided as a side feature.

bastion,
  • get in
  • get keys into hand
  • the abyss gazes also into me
bastion,

That song tho…

bastion,

I think he’ll be doing a lot of not liking. That said, it’s nice he sees something in it.

bastion,

Yah bub. This were the good ol’ time.

bastion, (edited )

Arch, btw 🙄

bastion,

About to get a new laptop, and it’s gonna Pop!

bastion,

The task question is:

Is Online Office 365 good enough for you? Or, is an ‘almost fully compatible’ word processor enough?

The features are there, but it’s a whole new interface to learn, and if you export to a word document, the document produced may look wonky when viewed in word. OTOH, whatever PDFs you produce, those will look right. And if Online Office 365 is enough, that’s great, because you won’t have to worry about that.

You’ll need to establish a workflow, and others in your office will need to use (and get used to) the same workflow.

It’s not a small leap for an office to take. I love Linux, but check out that it has what you need before you fully commit. Give it a try by dual-booting or by installing it on a secondary system.

bastion,

I have a thinkpad but am taking a chance on the Legion slim 7 gen 7. Still love that thinkpad.

bastion,

I have a budget saved for donations that comes from overflow in other areas, when there is overflow. I spend it on the projects I use and like most.
