Yeah, remember the reaction when that one post got popular about lemmy being boring for anyone that wasn’t a SWE/Linux user?
People got so pissed off, one of the top posts on lemmy that day was something to the affect of “fuck you, we’re not obligated to post things you like”. Which, yeah, you’re not - but you also can’t blame people for losing interest in your platform when you only have active discussion on one or two relatively niche topics.
The fact is that Lemmy is garbage for discussing hobbys or interests outside of a few niche areas. On reddit my feed was filled with woodworking, 3d printing, Astronomy, and other topics that get very little traffic on lemmy.
My lemmy feed is mostly politics, then SWE stuff, then memes
At least for my wife and I, the practical conversations all came before, by the time I proposed, we were already both in agreement about how we would handle finances, kids, etc. The actually proposal absolutely should be romantic, because it’s not “I have suddenly decided we will marry, we’ll figure it out from here” it’s “I’m now ready to take the big step in going from planning to spend our lives together, to actually committing to do it”
There’s plenty of room for both romance and practicality, and having a romantic proposal certainly doesn’t exclude having practical sober conversations before hand
calling themselves life coaches teach other people to be life coaches so they can teach more life coaches?
This accounts for a lot of it - the rest is mostly just getting hired by people who are too broke to afford someone actually qualified, and drastically overstating your success up until that point (E.G. Say you were an Entrepreneur when you really just lost money on an MLM)
I’m working on a indie video game that’s set on a large ship and I’m looking to have it be a very hidden and elusive boat. (Speaking vaguely to avoid spoilers)...
Might also want to prioritize areas of low military significance - even if there are no commercial ships, you don’t want areas where spy satellites are likely to be looking around for unknown vessels
100% - also try and budget to get the battery replaced with this method though, most modern smartphone batteries start showing significant wear after 2 years
Based on my experience working with PR teams and executives - you probably had a bored PR team that wanted to do something that feels important or relavent, and they pitched it to the exec team in a way that made them feel all important and excited (they probably threw in the phrase “lifestyle brand” a few times), so they went with it against all reason
Also, it wouldn’t really look nice - a typical stainless steel dishwasher looks clean - a microwave and oven (hopefully) look clean and tidy through the window. But a windowed dishwasher? Half full of dirty dishes for most of the day, and even when the dishes are clean they won’t look neater than a plain stainless steel finish (or whatever finish you prefer)

A step further even, a lot of us need to burn off excess energy, because we’re so well off (evolutionarily speaking) that we practically can’t help but take in more energy than we burn naturally
Just went down the aliexpress rabbit hole again. Theres really everythinf for some of really niche things that i wouldnt ever buy, but some things really do look appealing. I wonder what do you guys use daily thats worth lets say under $20
Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty to gripe about with apple, just like every tech company, but I swear half the complaints I hear about Apple products on lemmy are either outdated or just plain wrong
For some reason the anti-Apple circle jerk is supercharged on Lemmy. I’ll never understand why people get themselves so worked up over a brand they never have to do business with
Honestly this is a big problem with being able to criticize Isreal in good faith - it’s all too easy to be taken as an antisemite.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure loads of antisemites are out there pretending to be concerned about Gaza while actually just using it as an excuse to hate jews - but the OP is describing very real issues - like the thing with Havard just last week where companies were rescinding job offers based on who supported Gaza and condemned Isreal
Yeah gaming on linux has gotten loads better - but it’s still definitely not quite there as a main gaming platform. Which is frustrating, because I vastly prefer linux as a desktop experience (and obviously for software development), but I just can’t ditch my windows PC for gaming yet.
Read the article - that’s really not the case anymore. My wife is a baker, and she makes Vegan deserts all the time, I can tell you first hand that when done well, Vegan deserts are every bit as delicious as “normal” ones
(I might have my facts skewed but that’s what I took away from my history classes 20 years ago)
I don’t think the typhoid blankets your referring to (at least that’s what I assume you meant by “gifts that would harm them”) were specifically given on the “first” thanksgiving, but you’re absolutely right that it happened. Even if the first thanksgiving was 100% as advertised (which it probably wasn’t) then it was a short-lived and tiny amount of human decency in what was otherwise a straight up genocide. Nevermind that the story was more about the natives helping the settlers than vice-versa, so really we’re just celebrating the time our victims were nice to us while we were still getting ramped up on eradicating their people
The trouble with all these technologies is that on paper they’re super exciting, but honestly name one company in existence today you’d actually trust enough to purchase it from?
Idk about you, but I can’t think of any, and I wouldn’t trust my govt to handle it either tbh

Lemmy, recommend me a good budget Android phone please
I need one for general purposes only, NOT for gaming, so I don’t really care about gaming-related features....
