captainlezbian,

FOSS is an ancom as food not bombs and books to prisoners programs.

captainlezbian,

As a linux leftie, I fully agree. It’s hard to convince people though. Also, I don’t necessarily think it’s the best intro to leftism for layfolk. It’s a great into to leftism for tech nerds and a great intro to tech for left nerds, but the punk who just uses the library computer doesn’t care. Unions are often the easiest intro to leftism for people and not many union folks are interested in learning free software.

I was out drinking the other day and an IBCW friend introduced me to a union brother of his and they’re smart guys who believe in the power of labor, hell they even excitedly showed me that there’s a professionals union in the AFL-CIO, but if I tried to explain a terminal to them they’d look at me like I grew several heads at once.

Free software is great praxis, but it often suffers by the fact that it isn’t what people are used to. That there are intro free softwares like GIMP, libreoffice, and basically anything where FOSS is the default. We can do this, but I think it’s definitely going to not be the easiest sell.

captainlezbian,

Yeah, if a stereotypical construction union rep feels judged by the FOSS world why would they try.

My local bike coop apparently used to run mint on their computer, but when the person who set it up left town it was too much for the bike nerds who weren’t mad engineers (this person also built an electrolysis tub, that had to be gotten rid of when they left Idk if they were actually an engineer by profession, but my dumb engineer ass keeps hearing they did shit I want to do). They’d go back if it was the same, but windows just works for them and linux needed someone to make it work.

captainlezbian,

The hippies were always capitalist adjacent. Many of them became the Jesus freaks and yuppies.

There were actual leftist movements happening at the time, but those were more of minorities beginning the discussions on how to actively demand power. Black power, gay liberation, women’s liberation, and American communism. Some of this did coincide with the tech hippies.

The California ideology was there from the start.

captainlezbian,

Is that why there were so many darn anarchists there?

And yeah books to prisoners programs are both a means of direct action and of spreading anti carceral propaganda to those most effected. Not all programs are anarchist, but the one I helped with had a zine library that included a lot of stuff by former prisoners about the harm, ineffectiveness, and racist origins of the American prison system. Which was good because at least that was something they always had enough of unlike English-Spanish dictionaries. Seriously if you ever have any lying around donate it to a books for prisoners program. A lot of prisoners want to learn to communicate with those they’re locked in a cage with. And for anyone with more liberal sensibilities it’s also a form of self improvement that helps on the outside.

captainlezbian,

Ah yes, a completely normal and common experience I’m sure

captainlezbian,

You now have the ability and drive to always make decisions. Are they good ones? Who knows but they are decisions

captainlezbian,

Windmills look so much better than rural Indiana

captainlezbian,

Yeah I drove from central ohio to Chicago once. The thing that struck me most was how little renewables ohio had. The wind farms were exactly what rural America needed to look fine.

But yeah also I advise against driving through rural Indiana because you still have to be there to do it

captainlezbian,

Yeah give me a 40 year old with saggy boobs, a bit of a belly, some laugh lines, and a bit of body hair.

captainlezbian,

Also she was clearly suffering from really bad ptsd from their childhood and not coping well. Her whole life was basically her version of the years of running until she had a kid

captainlezbian,

This is a world for everyone in it. We shouldn’t actively make it hostile to children, but we also shouldn’t be prioritizing forcing every aspect of it to fit their needs.

Our need to keep it alive isn’t just for children, it’s for everyone, which is also completely unrelated to censorship of sexual content

captainlezbian,

Oh they’ve wanted that gone forever.

captainlezbian, (edited )

Thankfully I know people who read cuneiform and can tell me what the Unicode to enter is

See it’s not hard en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuneiform_(Unicode_block)?w…

captainlezbian,

They don’t have much in common besides being just awful, bigoted, and black Americans. Chappelle has far more in common with Ricky Gervais and J.K. Rowling in his awfulness while Thomas is more like Samuel Alito, Brett Kavenaugh, and Rudy Giuliani (who is himself the most knockoff possible version of Roy Cohn).

captainlezbian,

Yeah I can get girls fine, I just can’t get them to try linux

captainlezbian,

What adobe product is it? Adobe is part of what drove me to FOSS

captainlezbian,

That’s such a weird situation because I do agree with the criticism of the age of consent being different for gay acts vs straight ones, but also 15’s a bit young there and they think it’s too high. Yikes.

captainlezbian,

Yeah I understand that and I’m ok with it (though I prefer 18 with Romeo and Juliet laws), but 15 feels like they inched too far

captainlezbian,

I just finished the 200 hours of audiobooks because my wife got me into it. Now I’m just sitting here patiently for my next dose from the remaining 300

captainlezbian,

Also like why would I care if it was made in a lab instead of obtained through large amounts of human suffering?

And as it is lab grown corundum is good enough for me. Choice in color, low price, and it’s not like I run in circles that have a problem with sapphire

captainlezbian,

As a lesbian I have no idea which ones are for who either. I just know I probably wouldn’t enjoy any of them

captainlezbian,

The problem with RCA cables wasn’t the colors, it was the fact that the back of the tv was huge and you really wanted to not have to get back there. HDMI you can install by feel

captainlezbian,

It’s a pain in the ass and I usually fail, but sometimes it works. Though far more importantly, it’s easier to get behind a flat screen with a swivel base than a big crt. RCA cables were on their way out when bigger tvs stopped weighing so damn much and taking up so much depth
