one of the better ideas I’ve heard recently is that commute time should be included in clocked hours

cerement, to asklemmy in [SERIOUS] How do you do figure out what job you want after high school?
@cerement@slrpnk.net avatar

[cynical rant – take with a bucket of salt]

you don’t

you pick something that you are competent at that pays the bills and keeps you alive and gives you enough free time to work on what you actually want to do

traditional boomer advice was to pick something you love, but after putting in endless hours of doing it over and over just to make enough to keep you fed and provide a place to sleep, you will grow to resent it with a passion – for your own mental health, you absolutely must maintain a separation between the job and your personal life

unless you are a developer, there’s not a whole lot to worry about – you’ll switch from one to the other when your distro switches and, chances are, you’ll never notice

the drama comes from the fact that the Linux community loves choices (and arguing over those choices) and, as @skullgiver points out, most of the choices have fallen by the wayside over the years

cerement, to asklemmy in What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?
@cerement@slrpnk.net avatar

even simpler – Firefox will auto-detect a lot of search engines – right-click in the search/address bar and if Firefox can detect it, bottom option will be to add that engine to your list
