like, it’s still dark at 5pm, there are barely any sports on, still bitterly cold and austere and it hurts to go outside, but you’re not even looking forward to christmas or the new year. the new year is here, and it’s largely the same as last year. except you’re getting older.
It does a few things but it basically entrains your circadian rhythms that mediate wakefulness and sleep. I’m no scientist but they are helpful for both insomnia and depression (particularly SAD) and I find it to be an indispensible part of my morning routine in waking me up and orienting me and fixing my sleep to a proper schedule.
And the light is important in the winter anyway because of the dreariness and darkness but I can’t justify why
Is this referring to lucid dreaming or are you more suggesting some kind of mental rehearsal to prime yourself to hopefully reflexively respond next time you’re in a similar dream-predicament?
I’m emphatically stating I had and still have all that, I frequently gloom/doom and think I’m going to fail massively and it rarely happens at all or even close to that extent. And then there’s a little bit of relief which may be addictive.
Like, what I’m suggesting is for a time to write out all your doom and panic projections for whatever is at issue and literally reverse them and see if that can help leverage you out of that pattern once you’ve paid sufficient attention to the risk/that which comes most immediately and natural.
I’m not necessarily saying you have to immediately mentally rewire yet (thats a process), but simply turn whatever first comes up on its head and see where that takes you conceptually
I think budgeting and practical finances should be taught at multiple stages throughout a student’s life. I thought I knew the general idea but didn’t appreciate how much neglecting it would set me back....
There’s an app called MoneyStats which does balance forecasting. Forecasting is necessary for me because I need feedback about how my decisions or plans affect the big picture and to be able to see whatever timeframe that I choose
Its the only thing that keeps one foot out of the financial aby$$. I just program in all my recurring and correct any imbalances every few days and review whenever I start losing the plot or just to make sure my model is representative of my reality and how I need to comport to ensure things stay tight
It’s been a grey winter, and looking to stay that way. I work remote, so I was thinking of getting an SAD light. But I remember from years ago when I had one (and worked in an office) that if I put it next to my monitor it gave me a headache and made my monitor hard to see. Those of you using SAD lights, where do you put them,...
Get the glasses and only use them 2x MAXIMUM (like no more than 30 mins) right as you wake up or want to wake up.
I strongly advise against using them any other time of the day or as an “energy boost”, they should be confined to use when you want to wake up to entrain your circadian rhythms, otherwise just go for a walk. They really shouldn’t have anything to do with working or using other screens. Make sure the surrounding ambient light is decent to avoid strain
When I say the glasses, make sure its white. The jury seems to be out on whether intense blue light has association with potential macular degeneration which is obviously worrisome

The transition from the holiday season back to the normal drudgery is so depressing. Is there any way to make Jan / Feb less depressing?

My English Breakfast tea states it contains 2g of protein.
How/Why? Is that an oblique nod to insect protein, how does tea contain protein? 🤢 + 3 CALORIES?!...
