so maybe you should stop lying to people about being vegan helping the planet.

85% of global soy is pressed for oil. the vast majority of the soy that’s fed to animals is the industrial waste from that process.

commie, to asklemmy in What makes video games addictive for you?

i don’t play games any more (at least, hardly), but these are the things i’ve learned about my preferences in games over the years, especially the ones that i played a LOT.

in rpg/rts games: early-game bugs that unlock any infinite resource. SOLVED skill trees or level systems that i can read then try different configurations. customizable bots are nice, too.

in rts/fps: solid, fully unlocked multiplayer with custom maps. lan gaming with no DRM so i can pitch a disc to my friends and we all install and play is great, but ubiquitous cracks are also fine. scriptable interfaces for combat tricks like the 4-shot glock in CS1.6 add an extra level of panache for me.

fighting games: solid controls, definable keys. also, combos that can be executed without timing: let me just input all the keys in the right order. also, please include a full-unlock cheatcode.

platformers/beatemups: let me run-and-gun. walljumps and double jumps are cool. if you want to throw in a few extra moves or let me build up to an ultimate, that’s cool, but i would like some control over which skills i pick up. having a co-op on these adds a lot of fun.

puzzle games: don’t make them. also, don’t put puzzles in any of the other game types. puzzles suck. fuck puzzles.

also, i don’t really give afuck about the story, even in the rpgs. i just wanna build out a character. if you can build up some interesting lore around MY quest to learn every skill/get all the equipment, that’s fine.

commie, to asklemmy in What kind of wearable device do you want? Assuming it will work and feel like you imagine it would

i’m a simple man: i just want 108 keys split into two panels on a vest. USB-A connector would be fine, maybe even ideal. i’ll jack it into the system i want. i guess it would need a killswitch or something.

being vegan doesn’t stop soy from being grown in rainforests

commie, to news in Commentary: We face a world potentially running out of antibiotics

environmental destruction continues whether you are vegan or not.

commie, to news in Commentary: We face a world potentially running out of antibiotics

it doesn’t actually reduce the use.

commie, to news in Commentary: We face a world potentially running out of antibiotics

being vegan doesn’t help the planet at all.

commie, to asklemmy in What's the significance of calling it "Israel-Hamas War" vs "Israel-Gaza War"?

calling them terrorist just means you don’t like their politics

“terrorist” is loaded language.

FUCKING LEGEND

commie, to piracy in Usenet

if you’re paying for a vpn, then paying for usenet is no different.

IF YOU ARE JUST OUT THERE RAWDOGGING TORRENTS IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 2023 then you are a fucking legend.

myself, i don’t pay for either, but i do use xdcc still and i use i2p which supports torrenting.

commie, to piracy in Usenet

it’s a service issue. if it was $5/month for every streaming service including music and current tv, would you pay for that service? how many hoops or hassles would you be willing to tolerate for that price point and access?

commie, to asklemmy in What is an musical instrument would you like to know how to play?

“closed hole” flute: I have a tendency to pick up loud and obnoxious instruments. trumpet. diatonic harmonica. penny whistle. it would be cool to have a genuinely soft instrument. also, having skills that would transfer to piccolo:D

commie, to asklemmy in What are some easy ways that you can improve energy efficiency and be more eco-friendly in your rental apartment?

i was asking because i can explain the methodology, and it is dubious.

if you total all the inputs that go into a product (the water, the carbon emissions, the land use, etc), then you can see what it would cost to produce it if you made no other products. but that’s not actually the environment in which meat dairy and eggs are produced.

the most illustrative example is cotton. cotton is not a food. it is grown for textiles. it wrecks the soil and it is THIRSTY. after you harvest the cotton and separate the fiber from the stalk and seed, you have seed left over. way more seed than you need to replant. cottonseed can be and is pressed for oil, but it takes much less processing to mix it into cattle fodder. why should the water used to grow cotton count against the water inputs for beef and milk? it’s actually a conservation of resources. these industries are all interconnected, and trying to just put a singular value on every product in the absence of the context of its production is not actually useful in determining what would be ecologically responsible.
