conciselyverbose,

I listen to a constant stream of audiobooks when I drive (and the rest of the time).

conciselyverbose,

I just don't consider any of that an answer to the question. For the most part, nobody is expecting every individual ingredient of a meal to be made from the raw ingredients (I don't actually think sauce is a lot of hands on work, but I don't usually bother to make it either). While I have a pasta maker and love fresh homemade pasta, if I make a lasagna from store bought noodles, jarred sauce, and store bought ricotta, nobody is going to yell at me for calling it homemade. The version with fresh pasta, homemade sauce, and homemade ricotta is going to be better (OK, I haven't done ricotta so I might make it gross), but the first one still counts.

conciselyverbose,

If it's not from scratch it's not good.

conciselyverbose,

Throw a couple Apple shares in a college fund for me.

conciselyverbose,

Obligatory "check your library". It isn't "literally anything ever published any time" like piracy is close to, but in a lot of places (at least in the US), there's a pretty meaningful selection of content you can borrow perfectly legally.

conciselyverbose,

lol now I want to know what meme he's so mad about.

conciselyverbose,

That's dumb as hell.

conciselyverbose,

All memes are dumb. They're supposed to be.

I'm talking about being offended by that.

conciselyverbose,

So, on my (Android) ereader, I use einkbro which is a browser that will save pages to epub, then can be used and organized with most reader software. You can also combine multiple web pages as chapters to the same book pretty trivially.

I don't have a suggestion that perfectly fits your question as asked, but figured I'd suggest it anyways because it serves a relatively similar goal for me.

conciselyverbose,

It probably is costing them more because they're paying some obscene license to a third party for the online software.

conciselyverbose,

I'm saying they are probably being charged some portion of website sales specifically by the vendor of the web service provider. Which realistically makes sense, because regular online retail already almost always takes a percentage and there are significantly stronger regulatory requirements around anything medical.

conciselyverbose,

It's not intended as a drop in replacement.

Backwards compatibility forever sounds great, but the technical debt eventually becomes a giant fucking limitation on improvement. They chose not to stay backwards compatible for a reason.

conciselyverbose,

Panache is flair. It's a certain sort of showy style in how you act.

Charisma is habitually making people like you.

conciselyverbose,

I got an axe throwing game (plastic axes, so reasonably safe, but surprisingly fun). I would rather the axes weigh a little more, but as is it means it can be put out with other lawn games when families come over without being nervous about kids.

conciselyverbose,

What if the battery is doing something hinky enough to cause very minor interference and the internal cable is close enough to be affected by it? I'm not super familiar with the low level details of battery tech but I think it could theoretically be possible (though obviously would be stupid rare).

conciselyverbose,

It does feel like a pretty long shot, but you've done all the common sense stuff and are into the weeds, so why not throw wild guesses around?

conciselyverbose,

I really doubt that. Computational photography is only as good as it is because of how heavily it processes all sorts of data that can't make it into the jpeg that gets spit out.

I would love to see what an Apple camera with the hardware they leverage on iPhone, but a full frame sensor and real lens could do, because what they manage to pull out of the trash ass input is impressive. But it's already processed to absolute hell. There's nothing left for further passes to pull out.

conciselyverbose,

Excluding some of the smaller point and shoots, which are still more volume than most phones, DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras are way bigger than phones for a reason. It's because that's what it takes to take actual high quality pictures without cheating heavily with processing.

conciselyverbose,

I hate this. I'd be perfectly fine with network bullshit if it was a universal standardized profile so it actually worked (and I could build a programmable physical remote for it) . But the App Store is flooded with "android TV remotes" that maybe support one specific obscure (unlabeled) TV. I've never found one that works for anything I've owned.

conciselyverbose,

I want a case that slides a keyboard out from the bottom of my horizontal iPhone so bad.

conciselyverbose, (edited )

As far as I'm concerned skippable ads are the same thing as any other ad. I use auto play for a reason and it's because I don't want to fuck with the remote every episode.

conciselyverbose,

They already fucking do.

They just pretend pre-roll trailers aren't ads.

conciselyverbose,

If it's malicious, it's not penetration testing. It's just malicious.

conciselyverbose,

By far the most offensive part of this complete and utter shit post.

Question for legal folks: Travel based abortion restrictions

Texas and I believe a few other states have passed anti-abortion laws that attempt to cover people leaving their states to seek safe and legal abortions. The ones I’m familiar with (as I recall) applied to things like traveling on state-owned roads to seek an abortion out of state....

conciselyverbose,

It will never get ruled on because the core concept is so obscenely unconstitutional that it doesn't matter.
