conciselyverbose, to asklemmy in What's a food you love, that isn't worth making from scratch?

I just don't consider any of that an answer to the question. For the most part, nobody is expecting every individual ingredient of a meal to be made from the raw ingredients (I don't actually think sauce is a lot of hands on work, but I don't usually bother to make it either). While I have a pasta maker and love fresh homemade pasta, if I make a lasagna from store bought noodles, jarred sauce, and store bought ricotta, nobody is going to yell at me for calling it homemade. The version with fresh pasta, homemade sauce, and homemade ricotta is going to be better (OK, I haven't done ricotta so I might make it gross), but the first one still counts.

In the wrong how?

If you don't believe in copyright, whatever, but IA was doing something blatantly violating the law and getting away with it until they decided to flamboyantly draw attention to themselves by removing the veneer of legality and just giving away unlimited copies.

conciselyverbose, (edited ) to asklemmy in Why aren't modern 3D platformers as good as the PS2 era of 3D platformers?

I've been playing Journey To The Savage Planet lately, and while the gunplay is not awesome, and the unlocks involve collecting materials, the "rare" materials for each enemy are behind a boss or mini-boss, and it's effectively a 3D metroidvania. There's enough hard platforming that I take more fall damage than enemy damage (or at least close), even in the boss fight I'm currently stuck on.

conciselyverbose, to linux in How safe are my data if my hard drive isn't encrypted?

Not that other means of accessing the passwords aren't worth considering, but in the real world, it takes a lot more for someone to actually coerce your password from you than to use unencrypted storage.

I generally like xkcd, but this is a harmful trivialization of the value of encryption. In the real world, anything that isn't encrypted is negligent as hell. There's no valid reason not to do it, with maybe the exception of a thumb drive you're sharing across a computers you don't control and are clearly aware is not secure.

conciselyverbose, to linux in Looking for a "couch laptop"

Not particularly. I use it because it's always available.

But the limiting factor is way more the lack of real estate than it is typing.

conciselyverbose, to linux in Fonts

I've set my ereaders to roboto thin or roboto light. I haven't been motivated enough to try to change fonts on other platforms.

conciselyverbose, to piracy in Steam: New Pricing Needed For Argentina and Turkey by November 20th

I said it wouldn't be negligible. It would be literally zero.

The increased volume in lower income regions is massively less than the lowered revenue in the first world in every case. Regional pricing is "bonus" revenue from low income regions. It does not offset the first world in any way.

conciselyverbose, to piracy in Steam: New Pricing Needed For Argentina and Turkey by November 20th

No, it won't. There's no point on the curve where low income regions have any possibility whatsoever of enough volume to affect it in any way. It's not a matter of "affording" anything, because adjusting to satisfy those regions is lower revenue than ignoring them.

It won't have a negligible impact on pricing. It will be literally zero.

conciselyverbose, to piracy in Steam: New Pricing Needed For Argentina and Turkey by November 20th

No, there's not even a theoretical possibility for that to happen. Lower priced regions are lower priced because there aren't a meaningful number of people in those regions able to pay first world prices.

Lowering the global revenue by whatever small amount those regions bring doesn't somehow incentivize publishers to lower revenue further by lowering prices in the first world. It makes no sense to think it does.

conciselyverbose, to asklemmy in What are some companies that deserve to be boycotted to death?

Prius made the market look negligible because it was such a repulsive piece of shit most people were too embarrassed to buy them.

conciselyverbose, to asklemmy in How do you spend your idle time?

Ereader, steam deck

conciselyverbose, to RedditMigration in Fidelity has cut Reddit valuation to $5.5B from $10B

Yeah, discord is way less bad than anything else I've seen. Tags would be cool but you can change settings per channel and server and as the host you can give people more granular control by using roles.

I don't really know what more you would reasonably want.
