I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds
Bookmarks/favorites are designed specifically for managing large collections of more or less frequently accessed sites. They have descriptions, tags, folder structures, etc all built in and requiring a few kb of disk space each instead of 100MB of RAM. I’m wracking my brain for a reason why deliberately keeping hundreds or thousands of tabs loaded could possibly be more effective at managing a collection of resources. I got nothing though…

Favorite so far was probably a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protégé. They were kinda anemic for a 2.0t car out of the box, but I had built the engine a bit and goosed it to around 225whp. It wasn’t the fastest thing around, but it had a raw mechanical feel that was a hoot to drive and toss around corners, especially after adding some stickier rubber.
I’ve got a NB Miata in the garage right now, but man it’s just missing about 75whp to match the smiles per hour factor.
Edit: (Slice of bread with a hole cut in the middle and an egg fried in it.) I have always called them daddy-o eggs but I have recently been informed that is incorrect.-
Tried our hand at making deep dish pizza for new years. Turned out quite good but I’m no expert so I can’t say how accurate it was. I am told the toppings are supposed to all go under the sauce but I couldn’t resist putting some pepperoni on top
It can be tough to break from habitual behavior in the moment (i.e. when you’re reaching for a snack). Instead try putting some effort on making it harder or more inconvenient to indulge in that habit, while also giving yourself alternatives so it doesn’t feel too torturous and make you want to give up.
For example, I’m guessing it will be a lot less emotionally “painful” to resist buying those snacks when you’re out grocery shopping than it will be to resist grabbing them when they are already in your pantry. Use that to your advantage and stop buying the worst ones and try replacing them with a few healthier alternatives so that when the urge to snack hits at least the worst options are not available to you.
I’m hardly the healthiest eater, but a good apple sliced up satisfies a lot of my urges to snack. Baby carrots with hummus also keep your mouth busy and fill you up with relatively few calories. Try a few fruit/veggie snacks to see if any scratch your itch to snack. You don’t have to change 100%, if you can break the junk food habit even 1/4 of the time, that’s a step.
Another thing that’s worked for me is portion control. Instead of bringing the whole bag of chips with you, pour a bowl and leave the rest in the kitchen. You might go back for seconds sometimes, but it still creates a barrier to eating more.
I think the most important thing is don’t try to make it all or nothing. That will just set you up for failure and frustration. Take steps that are meaningful but achievable. And when you have the motivation, try to think of ways to set yourself up for it to be easier to make good choices when you have less motivation. You got this 💪
Not necessarily making them easier, but making it so that one shift worth of management and office/engineering staff can effectively support 2 manufacturing shifts.
The managers could come in at 5, but then they only have a couple hours at best to interface with 2nd shift
The definition given is almost word for word the definition of an engineering mindset, regardless of field.
I’d say it’s not a bad way to think about your life as well, as long as you limit the scope to things you realistically have the ability to impact and focus most of your energy on the actual problem solving.
For me it’s watching steve1989 MRE reviews on YouTube. Dude has the chillest voice and demeanor, and the content is just engaging enough to keep my mind from spiraling off onto random shit, but not exciting enough to keep me awake. The only problem is waking up to my phone on the floor or buried God knows where in my sheets.
And just in case Steve browses Lemmy, I also like watching his videos while awake too! 😄
Scientists have to list all the sources they use. And they quickly get called out for doing mistakes in that regard and suffer a loss of trust in their work....
I’ve always thought it would be an interesting experiment for all (or most) proposed laws to be written as though they were scientific experiments, complete with:
Hypothesis (what is the law intended to accomplish?),
Metrics (how will effectiveness be measured),
Effectiveness period (when will these effects be realized?)
Success cnriteria (what is the minimum effect to consider the law effective?)
Side effects (what might go wrong, and how will that be evaluated?)
There’s probably lots that does not cover, but the main idea is that any new law comes with quantitative ways to determine its effectiveness against its stated goals. Any law that does not meet those goals in the predefined time period is scrapped.
But again, as Zeppo said, without an informed and interested electorate, it’s all pretty much moot.
Edited to add: I know it’s kind of pithy to respond with just a link, but that’s really all there is to it. Like “a gentleman and a scholar” or “full of win”, it’s just a phrase that someone typed out of hyperbole, and people latched onto it, turning it into a meme.
Is anyone else having the issue where you’re 30 comments deep into a post, you reply to a comment and when you submit it refreshes the whole post making you lose your spot in the comments?...
I have no idea if this is possible to implement on the client side, but it would be really cool to be able to pick which subbed communities are emphasized or de-emphasized in your feed....
