I just deleted my entire library and redownloaded it.

A lot of my files were shitty 480p versions of movies from the Napster days. Now they’re all 1080p, with a few 720p exceptions (mainly tv series episodes). All in all 500 something files in total. Now just watching uTorrent slowly download them all. Hopefully my VPN keeps the eyes off of me…

explodicle,

Where can you forever-download these movies with no DRM?

explodicle, (edited )

Libertarian, which ought to be understood as left anarchist.

explodicle,

I’ve met plenty of dudes who thought it was cute too.

explodicle,

The liberals in government need a little help, we should all unionize too so they won’t have to focus as much on worker’s rights. Like even shut down the rails if we need to. They can become the moderate option to keep things running.

explodicle,

I’ve noticed a couple “it’s because they defederated the servers filled with trolls”. Federation is bad for numbers, good for user experience.

explodicle,

How do you think they can better address the problem of abusive users from other servers?

explodicle,

That wouldn’t work on Lemmy because one can make infinity user names on an instance without CAPTCHAs (or any other throttling).

And even then, Reddit tended to allow a lot of trolling.

explodicle,

We should just use crowdfunding instead. There’s a lot of money you don’t have for crowdfunds because of IP monopolies today. Hollywood wouldn’t make as many high budget films, but it would remain a major hub for filmmakers who no longer need to appeal to entrenched business interests.

We’d get a lot of low budget but actually original films.

I’ve never seen a use of blockchain yet that didn’t boil down to being virtual money.

A classic bitcoin article agrees with you: It’s Not About the Technology, It’s About the Money

explodicle,

That’s the benefit of a land value tax. It captures all the economic rent, without penalizing investment in improvements.

If you’re an anarchist, then the economics work the same way in a geoanarchist society.

explodicle,

I agree that LVT doesn’t address the fundamental class antagonism. It only addresses economic rent.

Landlords can’t just jack up prices. LVT doesn’t distort prices because the supply of land is perfectly inelastic - the revenue comes entirely out of landlord surplus. UBIs so far haven’t caused significant inflation, which makes sense if the total amount distributed equals the total amount taxed.

explodicle,

Fellow left-wing anarchists: should we just give up on trying to reclaim this word? What do you call yourself among people who don’t know the context?

explodicle,

You think it’s a crime against humanity to kill a slaver?

explodicle,

Can be addressed with assassination politics aimed at slavers and child abusers.

explodicle,

Is there a way to preemptively sign up for a community in case someone creates it?

explodicle,

One subreddit I still check occasionally is just for Skyrim mods made by one guy. This community of mere hundreds is wherever he makes his posts, and moving would annoy some of his Patreon supporters. The switching cost is high relative to the benefits of switching.

explodicle,

I barely touch the inside of the dishwasher door at all. It gets blocked by the bottom tray that rolls out.

Oklahoma’s ban on filming police

Wow this is the first I had heard of this! Please tell me this is already being challenged on first amendment grounds.

explodicle,

Then your case isn’t normal. With fewer people on the road because of better infrastructure, you would have fewer dangerous encounters.

explodicle,

Lungs are holes, he just extends them. You actually lose weight too so that’s a bonus.

explodicle,

And I’m doubting the usefulness of that adage in cases where it really is society that’s wrong.

Does higher minimum wage make workplaces respect worker’s labor more?
