That same separation is what prevented Trump from sending in the national guard to Detroit and Oregon just because he disagreed with the protests there.

The intent to give the peoples of the state further say in the use of force in the state.

Enjoy the fruits of liberated market. /s Honestly though you assume that the only value of liquidating assets from billionaires is getting their dollar amounts moved from on bank to another. There is a reasonable assumption that freeing up that capital to be enthusiastically invested or utilized to meet demands would provide more economic growth than it sitting in large hoards being spent in most risk adverse ways or in near total whimsy.

fruitycoder, to privacy in Pornhub pulls out of Montana, NC as age-verification battle rages on

Controversially, I think the Internet has made society better. We’re still in the growing years of the age of information, so plenty of challenges to overcome for sure, but it largely has made for a more informed society and really empowered the average person despite the resurgence of authoritarianism.

fruitycoder, to linux in The Linux Experiment Channel (From Nick) is on Peertube, and it federates right into Lemmy as a community

Also, the comments don’t seem to be syncing correctly between the peertube video and the community post. Peertube apparently supports using accounts from other fediverse instances, but it failed for this account I am using now.

There is a term for this called the “Valley of revolt” basically a people need enough empowerment to revolt but not enough to feel heard.

Also it’s not necessarily just “bad with finances” it’s that our expected standard of living doesn’t match our actual standard of living. Rising cost and stagnant wages and all that.

Is 500k a house to raise a family in or just a place to stay in?

fruitycoder, to asklemmy in How do I avoid Amazon when orders from other sites get fulfilled by Amazon?

addons.mozilla.org/en-US/…/cloud-firewall/

But honestly I don’t AWS is as bad as their retail side to there employees.

fruitycoder, to opensource in Could we add alternativeto.net to the sidebar?

directory.fsf.org seems pretty good, actually. I’ve been lurking at electronics modeling software for a few years now and just found ones I’ve never heard of there but also the usual suspects. Maybe a better FOSS browsing tool, but still pretty cool.

fruitycoder, to selfhosted in How safe is self-hosting a public website behind Cloudflare?

I’m definitely a fan of Gitlab pages for simple webpages I just want on the Internet. It’s nice to have the code hosted anyways (gives me that off site back up safety so my stuff at home can go down if needed).

Wait you mean there’s better ways to scale than deploying a whole new hardware and click ops your way through installs? /s

fruitycoder, to asklemmy in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?

I try to never buy something the same day I learn of it. I’ll take someone’s business card, look it up online, comeback later, etc. that way it’s only if I really care about it and not just feeling pressured or spending money for fun (buying stuff feels like an accomplishment, but the feeling never lasts).

fruitycoder, to asklemmy in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?

Heck I have a some near me that I know as different places to look for things. One area is cheaper, one more high end goods, one tends to have older stuff, just because it depends on the people donating!

It’s a fairly ahistorical assumption that wealth accumulattion is done mostly through wealth creation. Anticompetitive practices, rent seeking, and maximize value extraction are all common practices for incumbent market leaders.

You basically create precedent to give away excessive wealth in order to influence it’s effects on the world instead of reinvesting it purely in mechasms of control of wealth.

I really hated renting, I would rather pay someone to manage my own house than put up with landlords again

fruitycoder, to asklemmy in What salary do you think would make you happy?

It’s the world reserve currency, it’s a safe bet to assume it’s USD when people are talking money unless specified otherwise
