fruitycoder, to linux in Microsoft says a Copilot key is coming to keyboards on Windows PCs starting this month

Mycroft was the best bet for this before now being continued by open voice OS.

It depends on how and what you’re measuring. A lot of Linux first, like system 76 and purism, do so e serious work on the firmware and boot systems of their systems. Which for some is a huge value add compared.

fruitycoder, to opensource in Could we add alternativeto.net to the sidebar?

directory.fsf.org seems pretty good, actually. I’ve been lurking at electronics modeling software for a few years now and just found ones I’ve never heard of there but also the usual suspects. Maybe a better FOSS browsing tool, but still pretty cool.

fruitycoder, to linux in Could 2024 be the year of the diagonal linux desktop?

Time to update “Are we Wayland yet?” With this breaking lack of feature support.

fruitycoder, to selfhosted in How safe is self-hosting a public website behind Cloudflare?

I’m definitely a fan of Gitlab pages for simple webpages I just want on the Internet. It’s nice to have the code hosted anyways (gives me that off site back up safety so my stuff at home can go down if needed).

fruitycoder, to linux in Writing program

I honestly use nvim for my general note taking.

fruitycoder, to selfhosted in Is this Seagate Exos drive too good to be true?

We used to use smart data to predict when to order new drives and on really bad looking days increase our redundancy. Nothing like getting a bad series of drives for PB of data to make you paranoid I guess.

fruitycoder, to privacy in [Discussion] How do you feel about age verification on Porn sites?

It’s not enough in my experience shrug but I agree it should on parents to support it

fruitycoder, to asklemmy in What is Something Scientific that you just don't believe in at all?

I know Greek mythology is very centered on the idea of fire being a defining things that made man civilizable. From Prometheus to the sacredness around keeping hearths lit.

Curious how many other mythos carry on those ideas tbh

fruitycoder, to privacy in [Discussion] How do you feel about age verification on Porn sites?

True it requires more coordination to be helpful. And tbh I think every household network should be going through and host a Tor relay so shrug but something to the effect of some minimal form of authentication that the person is a consenting adult that is given out at the discretion of the person would be useful for this case.

Not totally sure what the best way to do that is. Keys, cookies, OIDC from trusted party, block chain, DIDs (Decentralized Identifiers), or heuristics like IPs, or digital finger prints.

fruitycoder, to asklemmy in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?

Remember a lot of effort and money is spent into brainwashing us from young ages to be constantly be buying shit we don’t need and to feel like we are living bad lives if we don’t have it.

Remember it’s bullshit, remember that you are more than the fucking trinkets and landfill filling they want you to trade all your time for.

Boycott shit, find any reasonable moral cause as a good reason not to buy something. There’s almost always a good reason not to buy something that you don’t need.

fruitycoder, to linux in The Linux Experiment Channel (From Nick) is on Peertube, and it federates right into Lemmy as a community

Already made luckly github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3837 i just found it today though

Also, the comments don’t seem to be syncing correctly between the peertube video and the community post. Peertube apparently supports using accounts from other fediverse instances, but it failed for this account I am using now.

Other integration point, but I’m less sure. Syncing peertube accounts with other instances, so my subscriptions can follow me and my comment/threads can too!

fruitycoder, to asklemmy in What groups you are unwillingly associated with? How you handle it?

I find myself agreeing with the libertarian socialist school of thought, which means in debates I get accused of a lot of opinions I don’t agree with, because I disagree with things using socialist language or libertarian points.
