If you live somewhere that’ll let you then access to a crawlspace like an attic will let you do this
For example at my place getting into the above house crawlspace lets me access the insides of my walls from above. Simply run Ethernet from above where you’ll want each end of a plug to be, then drop it down and put it in place through a cheap (like .45c) Ethernet wall adapter. Hardest part is cutting the hole into your wall for said wall plug
I’m simplifying a bit but honestly it’s incredibly easy to buy a length of Ethernet wiring and some rj-45s, Google how to wire them, and run it yourself. I ran a short wire across a room once and it only took like an hour. Would be less in future now that I have experience
I’ve lost… Too many this year and I cannot imagine being more immersed in that absolutely depressing industry (pet death and grieving in general). Well that and I can’t draw
Important work though, I’m sure it helps people immensely
Seeing the other post here about YouTuber that went downhill and seeing content creators I am familiar with makes me sad. But how about those that still makes great, high quality content?
I tried to go with people on my sub list that hadn’t been mentioned yet as well as the smaller ones to help boost em
Might just add a screenshot list to the post but it’d be long (and also have people on there I know I’ll get judged for cuz I’ve forgotten they’re even there by now lol)
I hate that I always compare Lemmy to Reddit, but Reddit used to have (not sure if they still do) guidelines called “Reddiquette” that included guidelines about upvoting and downvoting. I don’t remember the specifics (and sending too much of my browser traffic to Reddit makes me feel dirty) but one of the guidelines was...
Those conversations happen so rarely that it’s not worth even considering that as a possibility until a reply or two has shown that they’re not going to stonewall the conversation.
In person things are one way, but on the anonymous Internet (especially lemmy and reddit) it’s people who are 100% not going to adjust their actively garbage views on things and thus deserve to be treated as the dickheads they too often are
If they don’t like being pre judged based on their political beliefs they should rethink why people have an inherant dislike of them, and maybe change. Or learn to deal with the consequences of having dogshit opinions
It requires at minimum being incredibly careful of what you buy at the store. Often nestle owning a product isn’t on the packaging of said product as well, as it’s a subsidiary or something, and so you’d have to look up damn near everything you buy the first time just to ensure it’s not nestle, then keep a list or do that every time.
And that’s before you factor in where people live. My closest store (20m drive) has almost no non-nestle products. The second and third closest are the same. The Walmart a little further has others, but that’s got it’s own many issues.
And if you have livestock or any sort of outdoor animal? Purina (Nestle) brands damn near every feed store within 75 miles, gotta go to an insanely small local guy who can only handle so much before being overwhelmed and having to send people to the local feed store.
And I live in California not too far from civilization compared to MANY places in this country.
When a lemmy instance federates, does it connect to one big lemmy network, or can there be multiple disconnected, yet locally federated instances? What I’d like to know is, can I simply join any Lemmy server and choose “All” to view everything Lemmy has to offer, or is there still hidden content?...
I watched it recently for the first time, and I really don’t get why it’s so loved. IMDB rates it as the second-best movie of all time, but it seems far worse than that to me. I like most old movies and see their hype, but The Godfather didn’t do it for me. What am I missing?
If you don’t get it, you don’t get it, and that’s fine.
From someone who’s went through film school:
It’s a great movie. I wouldn’t call it second ever, but it’s up there. The cinematography is some of the best put to film, the writing is excellent, and the acting is phenomenal. I love the music as well, personally. Mafia stories are/were big hits for film in general, dating back even to the black and white era.
In simple terms: basically everything about it is made better than your average film, and if there’s something you specifically like about films (music, cinematography, etc.) It’s usually an easy example to point to for a quality example of said thing
But yeah, there are too many movies in existence to put any real stock on “x best movie of all time” things

best app for lemmy?
The one I’m using is becoming so buggy to the point of being unusable. It was never really great tbh, what are most people using?...

What's with the hype for The Godfather?
