DSC: you want trans people to be seen in Trek? How about we make the only trans character a fucking ghost so they’re only visible to the only enby person in the galaxy, further isolating them both! How’s that for ‘being seen’? And, of course, because they’re both LGBTQ characters, they have to be in a tortured relationship. Sigh…
The queer characters in that show were written as queer first and people second, resulting in them just coming off as token caricatures rather than solid characters that feel like real people.
Now, PIC… apparently, the 25th century is the century of the potty mouth! It’s old man Picard and old man Riker dropping f-bombs left and right. Even old lady Seven getting in on the fun.
I also miss professionals exploring space, solving problems with science and diplomacy, engaged in intriguing stories that explored the complex moral and ethical issues of the day instead of just blowing shit up all the time and with some superficial lip-service pandering to certain social issues just to appease fans but without much more lasting presence than mere tokenism and self back-patting for the effort.
Won’t someone think of the billion-dollar megacorps‽ They may lose a few bucks saving kidnapped children on the off-chance some fakers pretend to be cops! GASP!
You’re acting as if this is some sort of widespread form of criminal activity and that it’s not already a crime to impersonate a cop or to commit wire fraud while committing a kidnapping. Because who gives a shit about any of that when a few bucks could be made?
Andrew Robinson himself has said in many interviews that he played the character as “Omnisexual,” and initially attracted to Bashir. In fact, he was originally written that way until Rick Berman put an end to it out of nothing more than homophobia, but Robinson continued to play him that way regardless.
It was funny when that happened in an episode of VOY when Janeway ordered a coffee, and then the mug materialized a few seconds later because the replicators were malfunctioning.
He’s a classically-trained Shakespearean actor, trained with the Royal Shakespeare Company. You should check him out on his The Twilight Zone episodes. They’re about the hammiest, scene-chewiest things you can imagine.
I love it when he goes topless, and that episode in his undies was pretty nice. Trinneer was such a hottie, although things got weird on Stargate Atlantis.
lol, I’m a weird relative. I’m the crazy uncle showing up after 16 years away who’s gonna freak a bunch of nieces, nephews, and step-siblings out. And you’re damned right I’ll be drunk, stoned, and by badass, gay, NYC self with my uptight Florida family.
Let the good times roll!
Edit: I was upstaged by my brother’s in-laws from china who don’t speak a word of English. How do ya like that? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Whatever. My brother and his wife were there to translate. They were delightful, and everyone had a wonderful time!
He said some fucked up things sometimes. He also had some great one-liners. I remember in the Augment episode, he was arguing with Aron Soong who yelled something like, “How can you say my work was misguided and too ambitious?” And Phlox incredulously replied, “Because I can read.” It was devastating.
