How can it not be true though?

How can it? It’s very simple, it takes far less time to click a mouse than it does to type a command.

Imagine doing this in a GUI: list the files in a large directory, ignore the ones with underscores in them, find the biggest file, read the last 1000 lines from it and count the number of lines containing a particular string.

Okay. I’m imagining it, it’s incredibly easy. What else?

Thats a couple of pretty straightforward commands in a terminal, could take 30s for an experienced terminal user. Or the same task could take many minutes of manual effort stuffing round with multiple GUI applications.

My guy, you’ve never used a file explorer?

I have no idea how GUI users can be even remotely productive.

Back at ya

No.

You realize your computer won’t work without scripts, don’t you?

No, I don’t. In fact every Windows, Android or Mac computer I’ve used in my entire life works perfectly fine without manually running any scripts at all.

Interesting, my understanding is that they should appear on PeerTube but maybe they have disabled that.

I mean that’s fair but it doesn’t make what I said “bullshit”

If you have/get a Pixel you don’t even need to be tech-savvy. You literally just plug the phone into your PC, navigate to the Graphene webpage and click “install” right in the browser.

While the device was muted?

How many of you run a Linux phone (Pine64, Librem etc) as your daily driver?

I was going through Pine64’s page again after I found the latest KDE announcement. With that said, I seem to see a lot of issues with firmware on the Pine, whilst the Librem is just plain out of budget for me. Was interested in how many people here run a Linux mobile as a daily driver, and how has your experience been?...

I couldn’t possibly recommend it to anyone who is not a programmer. It doesn’t work for shit. The simplest and most basic things like just installing software is nigh-impossible for normies.

I mean I’m sure there are plenty of others, but the one that comes to mind is the P7a

and now everyone just takes it as default pricing.

Who does that? There are several great phones you can buy for <$400. The phones of yore were trash.

We can’t even get widespread adoption on workstations, what are the chances we’ll ever get them on mobile?

It’s all the same problems. There aren’t nearly enough people using it for developers to spend their time developing compatible versions of their software, much less ones with a mobile-friendly interface.

Maybe they’ll work with PWAs but those still suck.

I have a sign like the one on the left except it is made of olive board, carved on a CNC and has a pretty bow on it and just says “GO AWAY”

My point is that they will make less profit if they are forced to.

Yeah, you said that already. I’m still not understanding what that has to do with this discussion.

People just need to have higher standards, which you are proving they don’t.

LOL what? Please do elaborate

You are arguing that if they make less profit, then they won’t make media at all which isn’t true.

Buddy, you’re the one that said “or they make nothing at all” , not me.

You really should study basic economics.

For the third time, none of this has anything to do with economics, basic or otherwise.

It’s sad watching you laugh and dismiss facts because they describe how you’re being taken advantage of.

It’s sad watching you struggle with the difference between not paying for something and choosing to steal it. It’s sad watching you poorly try to justify crimes because, in your opinion, it’s too expensive. I’m not being taken advantage of. I pay what I think the service is worth, and when it fails to meet that value proposition, I simply don’t watch it

Typically, personally, I will subscribe to a service for a month or 2 at a time because by that time I have consumed everything interesting that it has to offer.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Yes, once again, I’m very aware of basic economics. What is your point? Is it your hope that they will stop producing media for you to watch?

helenslunch,

Based on what?

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Why do you hate piracy?

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Gaben himself in interviews says all data points towards the best way to combat piracy is by providing a good service/convenience.

And yet people still pirate Steam games all day ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Then they started becoming bastards in every single aspect of convenience and cost so back to sailing.

ie: “I justify theft to myself because they charge more than I personally think they’re worth.”

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Hey man, I pirate too. But it’s nothing to do with cost, and I don’t fabricate bullshit justifications for it.

There’s literally nothing about the OP to indicate anything about being in public.

helenslunch,

No you should listen to my voice message because I’m not calling 😀

helenslunch,

Yeah I’m not typing out a long ass text message.

Voice messages live somewhere in the middle there.
