I would love to work on a project to build a thing that could reconfigure itself to match any existing cockpit. That would be sick. Maybe like a bunch of self-arranging robot building blocks and each has a different kind of switch or dial. Or each one can simulate it, hopefully in 3D with force feedback. They crawl into position and lock arms to form the cockpit. Send a command and the F-16 rearranges itself into an airbus 380. Or a corvette.
Bananas are ridiculously cheap even up here in Canada, and they aren’t grown anywhere near here. Yet a banana can grow, be harvested, be shipped, be stocked, and then be purchased by me for less than it’d cost to mail a letter across town. (Well, if I could buy a single banana maybe…or maybe that’s not the best...
Pretty much all food. I can work for 5 minutes and buy 700 Calories’ worth of trail mix. My work consists of walking around a climate controlled room answering questions about things people are buying.
This means that with 15 minutes per day of effort, I get a diet more consistent than my ancestors could get with six hours of work per day.
Yeah it would be nice to have mandatory micronutrient labeling. Some labels have them, others don’t. I think it might be up to the producer to decide which micronutrients they can list.
Anything encrypted with the private half can only be decrypted with the public half, and anything encrypted with the public half can only be decrypted with the private half.
This is not true. In key pair cryptography, the public key used only for encryption and the private key is used only for decryption.
Really it’s the internet that enables these monopolies. It nullifies space for information. Like a little pizza place can only have so much reach. But if the product is teleported, then that little pizza operation can just keep growing and growing smoothly and taking more of the market. And it can happen really fast.
I’m curious where people see Universal Basic Income on the political spectrum. Please mention what national/cultural/generational background is informing your answer. Thanks!
I think it’s left because it’s a social support thing, and I think it’s right because it’s super simple and puts power in the hands of individuals to choose how to spend it.
As a libertarian, I support UBI because I think a society with UBI has more liberty than one without it. I’m a conservative, so I abhor complex government, where petty tyranny can hide under the guise of policy. And UBI is simple.
There is evidence that standing is better for the human body than sitting. For work we have standing desks for computer work and such. Some aim to stand 8+ hours a day....
Go to an appliance store and ask them for a refrigerator box or water heater box. You can use a knife to cut it to the same height as the table you’re considering, then use it for a bit to see how it suits your lifestyle.
If it works, you can toss the box and buy the table.
Hi everyone. I have found many ghost comments in posts. Like one of the posts has 300+ upvotes and 28 comments but when I opened it, there were no comments. I tried different Lemmy apps and it’s the same in all of them. Which leads me to believe that it has something to do with defederation done by Lemmy.ml. Which instance has...
Hello, I’m Italian and I’m reading what I understood to be a classic in American HIstory. I’m throug 100 pagesi in and I have the feeling that the author is a bit too partisan and unbalanced. Sometimes I feel that he had already decided what happened and then he tries to find facts that confirm his prejudices....
And you don’t see how what you just wrote here could be seen as biased? I think OP’s looking for something outside that point of view you just espoused.

I mean the physical design of the gun, not the projectile or effect.

If the human body didn't heal itself, how'd you be doing rn?
Your body doesn’t heal itself. Cuts need stitches that must be permanent. Bones need to be screwed together even if just cracked. How you doing?
