It’s called corruption and yes every institution eventually becomes corrupt.
The trick isn’t to give up, but to constantly renew the institutions by being present and alive and talking openly about what’s wrong, how to make it better, etc.
The point is to lock you into indentured servitude. As one of my favorite psychology professors likes to say: “The administration has figured out how to pick the pockets of students’ future earnings”.
Government pumps a bunch of “money” into the industry, and I put money in quotes because it’s the student who’s responsible for it. The government’s part is making it guaranteed that you get that loan. Oh, and also making that loan immune to bankruptcy.
That drove the price of college up enormously. So then you’ve got 18 year old kids signing papers to take on five or six figures of debt they can’t escape. These are people who’ve possibly never held a job, maybe never paid a bill in their life or taken a loan, being given automatic approval for huge loans.
It may not have been “designed” to do this, but the end result is a looney tunes style conveyer belt saddling people with huge debt, and in the process making college administrations very rich.
I woke up this morning three hours after my alarm (work started quite late so I was fine in that regard), with my phone sitting next to me (I keep it across the room). What’s more is I also had a salt shaker next to me, and a big pile of salt underneath me.
So apparently this happened:
My alarm went off
I got up, went across the room, and turned it off
Then I went to the kitchen and got a salt shaker
Then I shook that shaker over my bed for a long time. Or, I unscrewed the cap and poured the salt then screwed the cap back on. It was a lot of salt. Like a couple tablespoons at least
Just introduce them as your partner. Lesbians are so habitually entrenched in hiding their sexuality.
I have so many pairs of “friends” come in appliance shopping. Gay men come in, it’s “This is my husband Mike”. Gay women come in and it’s like “This is my friend Paula. She helps me pick out appliances and definitely doesn’t live with me”.
I don’t pry, because I’m just selling appliances. But it’s pretty obvious.
She was poofed into existence one hour in the past, and started walking toward the well. At first it was just a zombie shuffle, mindless and jagged. But slowly and surely, she remembered her made-up past, forgot that she had materialized from thin air.
What makes you think that the bad actions of bad actors are going to cause our society to no longer survive? Bad actors have always existed, and yet we survive.
I disagree with the implication that anything you mentioned represents an existential threat.
