I know four people who ended up in the hospital from COVID, one in a medically induced coma for a couple of weeks. All except one of them is in their 30’s or 40’s and in good physical condition, the exception is a friend’s young child who is in the ICU right now and they’re not sure she’ll survive…

I tried but it’s hard to tell which one’s the source and which ones are just reposts. Ah well, at least I tried.

Did you draw this? I’mma post it elsewhere if I can get attribution for it, I really don’t want to post art without knowing who to credit

Yeah I could see this being used in the slide deck for some corporate mission or vision statement bullshit that’s completely detached from reality

Bah, amateur. Ads are unreliable and fickle; why leave the effectiveness up to chance when you could just use the implant to create a compulsion to buy a Tesla?

Hydroxic acid also kills thousands of people a year, either by inhalation or just ingesting too much of it

I was scrolling the comments and initially read yours as “hydro zombies in shambles”

Additional fun fact: Margaret Hamilton is the person who coined the term “software engineering”

I’m not quite sure if even that is correct. The AGC, as far as I understand it, did do quite a bit of calculation on the fly and was essentially the first digital fly by wire system. It did rely on input from the crew and ground control for eg correcting its state vector etc etc, but it even has dedicated vector instructions if I recall correctly. Can’t really precompute all that much when you can’t be sure things will go to plan and you’re dealing with huge distances. It did have eg separate programs for different phases of the flight but they weren’t really precalculated as such, more like different modes that eg read input from different sensors etc etc.

The US space program was pretty big on having a human in the loop though, much more so than the Soviet one which relied more on automation and the pilot was more of a passenger in a sense, sort of a failsafe for the automatic systems.

The book Digital Apollo goes into all this this in more detail, I can highly recommend it if you’re a ginormous nerd like I am and think that computers we’ve shot into space are endlessly fascinating

What if the perceived increase in numbers of androgenous and trans people has a chemical basis

I’d be willing to wager it’s mostly due to it being safer to be “out” than it was just a few decades ago. Speaking as a 40-odd trans person, growing up in the 80’s meant a much higher chance of getting your ass kicked or worse by your “peers” if you stepped out of line when it came to gender expression. I’ve always been what I am now, it’s just that it’s been safe to actually do it “out loud”, at least for the past decade or so – that seems to be changing now that the right is radicalizing rapidly.

A huge chunk of traditional Nordic food is either dirt-poor peasant food, or food that keeps for months on end so the brutal winter doesn’t kill you regardless of whether you’re a dirt-poor peasant or a hoity-toity lord (and this is what lutefisk is: usually low-quality dried fish cured in lye to soften it.)

Unfortunately this also means that many recipes are more or less lost, or really only written down in eg. family recipe books. And at least here in Finland we’ve also stopped using a majority of the local herbs we historically used, in large part because they’re not seen as “fancy” (being herbs that dirt-poor peasants gathered from the woods) – not that we were ever that into spices, life being honestly pretty miserable for the majority of the population especially when serfdom was a thing. People had, well, other priorities

People don’t seem to understand that FdI is literally a neofascist party that’s descended from Mussolini’s original fascist party
