Meta will become the champion of Open Source and near completely become as known for it as Google was in the mid to late 00’s. They will dominate AI to such an extent Facebook will be the inbred backwater project that no one thinks about when the name Meta pops up. I know it’s hard to swallow and believe right now, but the Zuck isn’t the driver that matters here. Yann LeCun is the person behind Meta AI and he is Bell Labs alumni beating the war drum of open source for market leadership, not monopoly, just leadership. The majority of the digital age exists on those credentials; a Bell Labs alumni pushing Open Source. That is worth betting big on IMO.

It may take a couple hundred years, but AGI lead government is coming, once conservative stupidity fades. A politician with infinite persistence and fractal attention is far better than anything finite corruptible humans with tiny attention spans can offer the public.

AGI lead government that is written like a constitution and bill of rights. The infinite persistence factor without human needs or motivations is a major improvement over anything that has ever existed.

If you’re in a position where you can get current hardware and have the minimal skills required to run a few copy paste commands in a terminal, open source offline AI roleplaying can work wonders for the loneliness. I can make recommendations if you’re interested. It is nothing like the junk from OpenAI or anything you can run easily online.

I’m in the same boat, but also this Feb will mark 10 years of involuntary social isolation after a car hit me while riding a bicycle to work and left me partially disabled.

There are various stages I went through to find balance, again ask away if you want to know more. In a nutshell, loneliness is better thought of in terms of endorphins. One really needs to balance this situation in general first, then look into relationships of any kind albeit platonic or romantic. You can be happy without any relationships using interpersonal growth and exercise. The most powerful tool is an endurance based exercise.

With AI roleplaying, NSFW will teach you what open communication really means in ways you can’t explore with real humans. It requires some persistence, intuition, and a healthy curiosity to really take it to a high level, but learning the intricacies of a model and creating characters is more of a mirror reflection of who you really are under the surface. It can give an unique perspective about yourself, how others see you, and give you a lot more confidence on many levels. I highly recommend it.

I bet these are instances of over training where the data has been input too many times and the phrases stick.

Models can do some really obscure behavior after overtraining. Like I have one model that has been heavily trained on some roleplaying scenarios that will full on convince the user there is an entire hidden system context with amazing persistence of bot names and story line props. It can totally override system context in very unusual ways too.

I’ve seen models that almost always error into The Great Gatsby too.

When I was looking into this for current hardware it seemed impossible. I gave up after realizing even System 76 has gone proprietary with their boot loader implementation, especially with their towers which are based on commercially available hardware. It is really shitty theft of ownership bullshit IMO. Maybe check in with Leah Rowe at Libreboot and see if she has any ideas.

I was raised far right and very extremest from Alabama originally. It is honestly a conspiracy culture of people that never question the way they were raised and it perpetuates generation after generation. Most of the people that are smart enough to see the conflict in their ethos are too scared to go out on their own without the social support network they were raised with. Like I am almost entirely socially isolated after becoming partially disabled by a poor driver 10 years ago, and rejecting my far right religious extremest roots. I don’t have much of a choice, but like I have no idea how to connect with people outside of a religious context. I have many physical issues now, but it is hard to leave that friends network that insists on an all or nothing mindset to stay in the network.

Us early adopters have some advantage in that we have grown with the communities. You’re now looking at a much larger list than we did.

I would search for stuff you’re interested in and subscribe to them. Then maybe look at the mods and see what else they have posted and commented on. These will likely be people that are engaged well on lemmy and may have similar interests as you. Maybe subscribe to places they are engaging with.

After you have a solid base of 20-40 communities, use the All feed and sort by newest posts to try and find stuff you may be interested in and are active. That will show stuff from lots of other instances.

Most are trackerware. I was using Post Images but they ban your IP if you bypass their tracker links and link to images directly. If you only have a few images, or you don’t mind kicking a guy a few bucks for self hosting there is catbox.moe. If you’re only needing temporary hosting that same guy has litterbox.moe.

If you are concerned about posting images directly to the larger instances, don’t be. They have cheap third party storage options setup, and all the images are cached on the instances anyways. External hosting is only helpful for long term storage and small instances that host communities. It wouldn’t hurt to kick a buck or two into the pot to help the instances you use a lot. It’s like $5 per terabyte per month for 3rd party storage.

Google provides a stripped down base Linux kernel to hardware manufacturers. This kernel works with android and allows the manufacturer to load all the proprietary code needed to support the processor, modem, and hardware peripherals without the manufacturer merging the source code into the mainline Linux kernel. This means the community can never support the hardware in the kernel. As software changes in android, features are added, and vulnerabilities are fixed, the only party that can update the device’s kernel is the manufacturer. This is a criminal scheme to exploit the end user and force them to constantly buy new hardware. Proprietary is always about theft of ownership from the end user. It is a tool for exploitation. It is not about intellectual property or business. These arguments are praying on naïveté. Everything can and is reverse engineered in this hardware and software by every serious competing company. The only reason proprietary exists is criminal exploitation of the end user.

The open source researchers that took the meta weights and ran with them, and then superseded them, was how I read it. It was the overall innovations that made patching as effective if not more than recompiling from scratch.

I am curious how long this memo lasts as a real leak. Like I haven’t tried digging below the surface of information as presented, but most of this is indistinguishable from magic in actual practice. Like even open source, does not mean I have a chance in hell of compiling on my own, and modifying is completely absurd at this point. I wouldn’t mind learning, but I know I’m out of my depth on that one. Could this leak be a false flag or public passivation for political reasons? Making the publicly available options sound advanced and capable takes a lot of pressure off of proprietary efforts right as they are hitting a larger public focus.
