In the end, the KIA car company made its cars into subscription models, I really hate this because in the end the car we buy with our own money doesn’t feel like it belongs to us. Should we finally buy an old school car ? so as not to be affected by this subscription models or is there a way to crack the software installed in...
Very personal opinion of mine, I hate subscription crap. However, I have to agree that, based on what you say, Subaru’s cost is much easier to digest than Hyundai/Kia POS.
Ok, enough. At this point it’s too evident that you’re a troll paid for by Hyundai. You’ll be out of a job soon, since this will no longer be effective.
Not 1 person here has mentioned that it doesn’t work. Not 1 person here has said that the “feature” is useless or anything remotely similar.
What is in question here is the fucking pushing of companies to tie as many idiots as humanly possible to their subscriptions to keep on draining funds from them.
Give me the car for free, and maybe I’ll subscribe. Otherwise, I buy stuff with ALL it’s capabilities enabled or not at all.
My car is worth US$85,000 in my country. Everything works, app and all, and I don’t have to pay anything other than my loan, insurance, maintenance and charge (yes, it’s an electric vehicle).
I own a 2023 BYD Han, I have an account for the app, and I can do whatever it’s able to do from it without ever having to open my wallet again.
If and when they decide to make this a paid subscription, then I’ll sell that one, and move on.
So, yeah, follow a bullshit advertisement that you call a “tutorial” and believe what you want. They are just like drug pushers, only for tech.
Now who is the one making fucking noise without looking a things from a common sense perspective?
You keep mentioning “official video by (insert manufacturer name here)”. Are you even thinking when you say that? It’s the manufacturer, what the hell were you expecting them to promote? “were fucking you over, so here’s why you have to give us more money for a car that you think is yours but actually will never be”?
When you buy the car, you also pay for that integrated, albeit disable, service. To enable it you have to pay a subscription. I agree with the OP. This should never be the case. Now, the culprit is not the car manufacturer, but the people that pay for it. If nobody, or aven few people, paid for this, they wouldn’t have a business for that and they would likely stop. Bottom line is, you don’t like it? Give your money to another brand.
Because you actually believe you didn’t already paid for about 5 years of the service when you paid for the car? Human stupidity and laziness is the accurate reason for manufacturers doing this.
I think I might cancel. I’m not watching ads and I’m not going to pay the extra $3/mo to opt out. I don’t know if I’d end up paying more than the subscription cost in shipping though…...
This is one of many reasons why I’m selling my Kindle Paperwhite and getting a Pocketbook Ink Pad 3 Color. Amazon is the Apple of retail, which drips down to even the ebooks. I do, however, have to consider my wife’s comfort when ordering stuff, but otherwise, ready to pull the plug on Bezoz and his gang.
I’m a certified Microsoft hater, but man, 90 weeks? I get it, we want Gnu-Linux to be more streamlined, but his is certainly not the way. This is tech fearmongering.
Another problem is that most manufacturers of laptops directed at the Linux crowd, for some reason I will never understand, insist on punching Nvidia hardware instead of AMD/ATI. How does that help?
I’m honestly blown away by whomever finds this surprising. This is Microsoft we’re talking about. Everything they touch turns into this. Taking what is not theirs, using it for profit, and not even giving credit where credit is due.
I am trying to slowly de-Google-ify myself by moving to open source apps, I wanna ditch google notes and evernote. You can, in theory, use the notes on ProtonPass. I use Joplin, and regardless of the fact that the UI could be more user Fri, I believe it is currently the best FLOSS option out there.
Vivaldi does that crap too. I’m used to clicking the bar, and selecting from there. Vivaldi fucks it up by suddenly showing the “https://” part and shifting everything else to the right. So fucking annoying.
Correction, corporate greed spiraled out of control long ago. It’s just that more and more of us can see it as time passes.
I figured this out about 7 years ago. I used to do drugs when I was younger (thank God for getting me off that train) and the “drug pusher” behavior of these companies was just too evident. So, for me it was sort of a natural reaction to put as much distance as possible from “ZuckMyBerg” and his crap services, then Microshit and Crapple followed shortly after. The hardest part was moving away from Google (I know, they could easily be the worst offenders, but who’s to say), and I’m almost 100% G-Free. Streaming (audio and video) followed closely.
At first it was a real struggle, trying to self-hosted as much as possible. But with all the amazing FOSS devs out there, it’s also getting increasingly easier.
Yes, it’s a lot of effort to move from all this cloud stuff and subscriptions to using only your own stuff, specially getting family and acquaintances to move away from the mainstream crap, in particular communication services (WhatsApp and the like). In all honesty though, I’m happy with this tradeoff, because only the people that really want to have me around choose to add the secure and private services I’m willing to use, effectively removing irrelevant individuals from my life.
My biggest concern right now are not evil corporations, but governments (democratic or otherwise) backing up all this privacy invasion and abuse.
When shit hits the fan, a lot of people will say (or just think) "damn, he told me about this and I didn’t listen.
We, the ones that keep informed on these matters, have the responsibility to attempt to make others aware. Although it’s really hard since most of us are not on mainstream channels and won’t touch the common stuff with a 10 foot pole.

As a user, if something like this was implemented in anything I use, as long as it’s opt-in (not opt-out), I would probably agree after I make sure I’m ok with the data I would be sharing.
Opt-out is always an instant “hell no” for me. It feels too much like a pusher.
I like using thunderbird to have all my emails in the same place, in a unified inbox. This doesn’t allow me to access my inbox on my phone etc though, so I’m looking for a FOSS way to solve this problem....
