Looking for Notes App for Android & Linux

I am trying to slowly de-Google-ify myself by moving to open source apps, I wanna ditch google notes and evernote. I tried obsidian, standard notes, and joplin, I liked using obsidian on PC and standard notes looks nice on android but obsidian you need to pay to have sync and standard notes doesn’t do markdown unless you pay...

Its more secure to go through a package manager. Checking signatures is important.

What loophole? I think they’re just blatantly violating it

wouldn’t a company like best buy have millions of dollars of inventory of TVs?

What were they not complying with?

What did they infringe on?

From the link, Best Buy paid $90,000. That’s awesome! Wouldn’t there be a ton of opportunity in suing these big, careless companies that are violating open source? Seems like this would be “the solution”

A year ago, China lifted draconian COVID restrictions that were an anvil around the neck of the economy and placed unprecedented controls on a society that, for the previous four decades, had grown accustomed to expanding personal freedoms, not shrinking them

Definitely not true for folks who use digital privacy tools

Videos stuttering across all applications

For a little over a month now, when playing videos on firefox, VLC, or any other application, I get infrequent stutters. This is with or without hardware accelleration. It’s as if the video pauses briefly. If multiple videos are playing, even across different applications, each of them will be effected at the same time....

Is anyone here using their hardware TPM chips for credentials?

I’m curious about the possible uses of the hardware Trusted Protection Module for automatic login or transfer encryption. I’m not really looking to solve anything or pry. I’m just curious about the use cases as I’m exploring network attached storage and to a lesser extent self hosting. I see a lot of places where public...

Usually because its not portable. A USB security key costs more than the TPM you already have, but you can make a backup and store it in a safe

Reproducable actions that do exactly what you expect.

Last time I drank a bunch of mulled wine in Germany during Christmas, I went to the train station and found it was closed.

Its absurd that the trains dont run all night, especially on holidays where everyone is out drinking and trying to not drive or bike intoxicated

While its nice to take holdlidays, I dont think its reasonable to shutdown necessary public infrastructure on holidays. Imagine if the electricity and water systems also shutdown on holidays.

Anyway, humans aren’t needed to operate trains.

What if the processing is done locally and the only thing they send back home is keywords for marketable products?

Eh, surprised that’s happening to someone in this community. Strip Google off your phone and throw out any hardware with a microphone that doesn’t run open source software and this will stop happening.

New York court: Spanish company and the CIA found guilty of violating rights of Julian Assange’s visitors (english.elpais.com)

A court in New York has ruled that UC Global and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) violated the constitutional rights and privacy of U.S. citizens when they met with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange at Ecuador’s embassy in London....

David Morales, a former Special Forces soldier in the Spanish military who owned a Spanish surveillance firm that was contracted to provide security for the Ecuadorian Embassy in London

To be clear: when they say Morales, they’re talking about the Spanish for-profit surveillance guy, not to be confused with the president of Bolivia Evo Morales.

For a second I thought this was a back stab by Latin America, whew. Nope, just the US doing its illicit shenanigans.

On TikTok, the war in Gaza is a game (english.elpais.com)

One of the TikTok trends is to show the process of loading a projectile into a tank and firing it. Another is to put trance music to a video, along with the words “2-3, sha-ger.” This is the order that a military drone operator is given to drop a bomb, with the syllables separated so that the message is clear. The trend...

Can you please paste the article contents in the comments?

Alright, I'm gonna "take one for the team" -- what is with the "downvote-happy" users lately?

Title. “lmao internet points” and all, but what is the point of participating in a community that sees assumptions and other commonly non-harmful commentaries/posts as “bad” this easily? Do folks in here are really that needy of self-validation, even if it means seeking such from something completely insignificant like...

Mostly I downvote people who post screenshots of headlines or tweets instead of posting a link to the source. IMHO we need better moderators to delete that crap, but I do my part.
