Misinformation. Tests show its better to use ridgid metal.

When I type, it does what you expect (going to the file/folder in the current directory by what you type).

Some time ago the others started doing some annoying search thing when you type, and I can’t find how to turn that off. Anyway thunar is simper and gets the job done faster

Developers have a right to eat and pay for a roof over their head. NC prevents that.

Greenland startup begins shipping glacier ice to cocktail bars in the UAE (www.theguardian.com)

Arctic Ice harvests ice from the fjords of Greenland, and then ships them to the United Arab Emirates to sell to exclusive bars. Using glacial ice in drinks is a common practice in Greenland, and, over the years, several entrepreneurs have unsuccessfully attempted to export it....

Yes but without the alcohol I’m sure you’d taste a difference between ground water and glacial water.Glacier melt has a lot of impurities that gives it a distinctive taste.

RO water would be the opposite of what you’d want if you want all the non-water things in your ice

I have worked for companies with thousands of employees, yes. It helps to be right about the cost, security, and usability benefits of using FOSS and be able to stand your ground and argue valid points.

But I do prefer companies with less than 100 people.

I make it very clear at the interview stage that I use Linux. Its never been an issue.

If someone tried to force me to use proprietary software, I’d say no. If they wanted to fire me over that, it would be ridiculous. It’s free and easy to support FOSS. Its costly & difficult to support proprietary software, so its not a hard sell.

You have more power than you think.

Probably better to use a tool that doesn’t require internet, such as QuickDic

Hardware security key options?

I've been thinking about getting a hardware security key and have heard of yubikey before; but I want to see what my options are and if they are worth it in your opinion.
My current setup is a local KeePassXC database (that I sync between my PC and phone and also acts as TOTP authenticator app), I know that KeePass supports hardware keys for unlocking the database.

I am personally still of the belief that passwords are the safest when done right; but 2FA/MFA can greatly increase security on top of that (again, if done right).
The key work work together with already existing passwords, not replace them.

As I use linux as my primary OS I do expect it to support it and anything that doesn't I will have to pass on.

PS: what are the things I need to know about these hardware keys that's not being talked about too much, I am very much delving into new territory and want to make sure I'm properly educated before I delve in.

This. Yubikey is not libre hardware, not sure why they’re so popular. I’d avoid any closed-source hardware for security devices. Its a bad idea.

Yes, there is. You’re risking downloading malicious software.

Eh, surprised that’s happening to someone in this community. Strip Google off your phone and throw out any hardware with a microphone that doesn’t run open source software and this will stop happening.

On TikTok, the war in Gaza is a game (english.elpais.com)

One of the TikTok trends is to show the process of loading a projectile into a tank and firing it. Another is to put trance music to a video, along with the words “2-3, sha-ger.” This is the order that a military drone operator is given to drop a bomb, with the syllables separated so that the message is clear. The trend...

They were attacked because they stole like half of Palestinians land. Palestinians didn’t even get to participate in the UN vote.

Two countries that were recently partitioned by the UN and suffered massive violence as a result (India/Pakistan) both voted against annexing half of Palestine to create Israel.

Yes, the Nakba was Israel’s fault. And they still need to return the land that they stole
