littlecolt, to piracy in PSA: Don't torrent over TOR

I pay monthly for access to a SOCKS5 proxy service from a company called BTGuard, and tell my BT client to connect through that. It is not expensive and works great I’ve been using it for about 12 or 13 years, and found it after getting an email from my ISP saying they identified me downloading TV shows. In that time, I have only had issues a handful of times. More reliable than most other services I pay for and I’ve never seen another DMCA notice since.

It’s seriously infuriating, the catalog they have at their disposal and they just rerun TTG, a show that at the time caused TT fans to be legitimately upset. No one wanted TTG.

I learned a ton of Japanese from anime. I also took two semesters in college, but anime was a huge portion. I signed on as a translation cleanup guy for a fansub group back in the day. We had a guy in Japan who could write broken English for the dialogue in anime episodes, and then I was the guy who was excellent with English but only had a basic grasp of Japanese (grade school level). Between us, we could get a script.

I learned more from cleaning up his scripts than I EVER did in two semesters of college.

Nowadays, I am not sure what the word for it is, but I can understand spoken Japanese at a high level but I cannot speak back very fluently. My spoken word is full of pauses as I try to think of the right word. But if you speak to me in Japanese, I understand very well.

So… is the meme accurate? I guess partially. It’s not like I would ever call myself fluent. I can just watch anime without subtitles now.

Domino’s crust is always covered with a layer of nasty gritty powder, even if I tell them to not season the crust.

I CAN’T BE STOPPED! I WILL SHOVE TWO HOT DOGS IN MY MOUTH INTO MY CHEEKS LIKE A COLD MEAT EATING GERBIL. CHEEKS PUFFED OUT, CHEWING, STARING AT ANYONE WATCHING AND NEVER BREAKING EYE CONTACT.

With the return of Mel and the mention of Sabalom Glitz, I decided to go back and watch Trial of a Time Lord. I marathoned all 14 episodes with fairly fresh eyes, I had not watched it in well over a decade. Each story is honestly super well put together, and the stories themselves are pretty interesting sci-fi on their own standing. The way the trial is woven into the stories, the edits, the way characters act “out of character” when in parts that had been manipulated within the Time Lord Matrix, feels well ahead of its time for 1986 television. also, it feels like a waste to have The Valeyard pop up and not be dead at the end, and then we never see him again. Like, that was a huge reveal. The Valeyard is actually The Doctor, but only his dark side, and is looking to eliminate his virtuous half. That honestly sounds like something straight out of modern Dr. Who. I’d always hoped we would see more of him.

I had heard that this season was not well liked, and that Colin Baker was partially to blame for being not very popular as The Doctor… But I dunno. This season feels like an amazing season. I think it’s a shame Baker didn’t get one more season as was originally planned.

littlecolt, (edited ) to asklemmy in Non-religious Republicans of Lemmy, how do you reconcile your non-religious convictions with a party that bases a lot of its policies on religion?

That and monetary issues. The “temporarily embarrassed millionaires” out there who want to keep R in power so when they finally get rich, they won’t have to pay taxes.

Where my Casio G-Shock fam at? Solar, set by atomic clock, stylish, pretty backlight, old Nokia cell phone levels of indestructible. What’s not to love?

Weirdly, Satisfactory, a game about thanklessly building a factory for a faceless corporation to exploit an alien wilderness.

React culture is fucking cancer. People can’t just enjoy things, they need to know how others react and if they are enjoying as well. I feel like I knew this before YouTube react channels were a thing. I had a friend that used to turn and look at my face CONSTANTLY when we were watching stuff, especially if he’d seen it before. It got obnoxious. He’d turn his head, I’d notice it in my peripheral vision and know something was about to happen in the show/movie. It’s like he was addicted to seeing people’s reactions.

I have always loved eating cold hot dogs, plain. Ever since I was very young. I like them steamed best, but cold is fine. With crackers.

Me, who works for an ISP repair department having to explain to a panicking customer, in a nice way, that they are not special because they work from home and the technician that isn’t available until tomorrow is what they’re going to have to deal with until such a time as technicians drive fucking ambulances and their shitty job that will apparently fire them at the drop of a hat has no tolerance for technical issues pulls the stick out of their ass. Or maybe demand the boss pay for a dedicated business line for working from home if they are so worried about it.

I theorize a good percentage of the truly panicked “I WORK FROM HOME, I WILL LOSE MY JOB” people regularly unplug their modems when they want an extra break and now that it’s actually broken, they’re at the limit of what the boss will put up with.

littlecolt, to asklemmy in Why wasn't NYC's Central Park concept copied by other cities?

Check out Forest Park in St. Louis. It’s nice.
