lolcatnip,

But a file handle can be attached to a TTY.

lolcatnip,

This whole thread is a great example of why I’m continually disappointed with Lemmy. Half the comments are just some variation of “capitalism bad”. I hate capitalism as much as the next guy, but it sure would be nice if people would stop grinding their axes for a few minutes to talk about the actual subject of the post. Or just not comment at all if they don’t have anything relevant to say.

lolcatnip,

It’s preaching to the choir but it’s not wrong.

lolcatnip,

Same as any other large organization, I suspect.

lolcatnip,

Your government used to be quite good at providing healthcare.

Anarchy (as a political philosophy) is about an absence of coercion.

Capitalism is about the supremacy of property rights over all other rights, backed up by the threat of violence against anyone who doesn’t play along.

How anyone can think those two concepts are compatible is beyond me.

lolcatnip,

Sounds like the NPR model of funding. Even if you can get everything else to work, you still have a couple of weeks every year when you can’t go anywhere without having to stop and listen to Nina Totenberg lecture you 20 minutes about how important it is for everyone to pitch in as much as they can afford.

lolcatnip,

I fail to see how debating the form of a transportation network is related to the necessity of funding one.

lolcatnip,

Anarchism claims to be different. But yeah, that’s a big part of why I see anarchism as a thought experiment and not a serious ideology.

LOL.

lolcatnip,

ButterFS (btrfs…its actually “better” right?),

I’m still waiting to find out who the BCA Chefs are.

lolcatnip,

They really missed an opportunity to say “to have been continued”.

lolcatnip,

Although they do practice slavery and piracy.

“Paying” for tax cuts makes sense in the context of changing budgets while trying to keep them balanced. But no money is ever spent on tax cuts. It’s spent on the public infrastructure and services you mentioned. If you properly account for the money as being used to pay for public goods, then saying it’s also used to pay for tax cuts would be double counting.

lolcatnip,

Saying taxes pay for cuts to someone else’s taxes is nonsensical in this context. No money is spent on tax cuts.

lolcatnip,

The title is a reference to Rogue One.

You missed a big advantage of gold: for most of human history, gold was the densest material known to man by a wide margin, making it very easy to verify that a piece of purported gold is real.

lolcatnip,

One rule of thumb I discovered when doing research about a year ago is that AMD chips are generally way better than Intel chips when it comes to power consumption.

lolcatnip,

Michael, with the printer and a baseball bat.

lolcatnip,

Do you have a link for storing keys in hardware? I have no idea how you’d do that.

lolcatnip,

Yes, but.

lolcatnip,

Being a semi-parody allows them to reference the most embarrassing bits of the canon with a protective layer of irony.

lolcatnip,

Is there some kind of law that consumer electronics have to have a terrible UI? It’s pretty much just smartphones and computers that don’t totally suck.
