And decent pirated movies/TV shows will already come with the subtitles embedded in the video container nowadays, which is great.

Agreed, image-based subs are terrible…

I keep my subscription proxied through Piped, and I back it up when I change my subs. Also if you create an account on one of the Piped instance you get an RSS feed of your subscriptions.

Maybe we’ll eventually see a version of FreeTube running on Tauri one day (one can dream).

The proper emailing etiquette is to CC people who don’t need to take action (informational) while those who are emailed directly are expected to do something. At least that’s how I operate.

Microsoft has a lot of pull on hardware manufacturers, like all PCs are required to contain a TPM module in order to be compatible with Windows 11. And sadly, most consumers will either want a macOS or Windows-based systems. Unless we see more ARM and/or RISC-V systems becoming mainstream, systems without a TPM module are not going to be very common outside of enthusiasts circles.

If you own the music copyright, you could self-host it on Funkwhale if you want to go that way. It shouldn’t need a lot of resources too. It’s a federated platform, and relies on ActivityPub.

You want to share it with friends? Good. You want to share it with everyone? Up to you.

Install Audacity, and follow the instruction to add ffmpeg.

From there you’ll be able to open most audio files out there and then export it to another format like mp3.

FYI MKVtoolNix doesn’t do transcoding, it simply allows you inspect/modify metadata and demux/remux data streams into an MKV container.it’s indeed useful and I use it often, but it wouldn’t be for OP’s use-case.

For MacOS there’s IPTVnator and on Android I’m relying on IPTV Pro.

Some improvements I’d like to see, but maybe I’m missing something and could be a bad idea

  • The submitter gets notified if an action is taken on content they’ve submitted or on their account.
  • Define rules with a tally of how many times a user breaks each of them, with well-defined consequences that can be programmed.
  • The addition of polls
  • Restrict polls to users already subscribed to the community at the time of the poll creation, or with a minimum of xx days subscribed and/or xx amount of submissions, upvotes, etc
  • Have the rules voted by the community, and moderators elected/impeached by its community.

spoiler: am mod, and apparently asking for fairness and clear rules agreed by the community is being entitled now

then vote them out when they do shit you don’t like.

no, it’s vote them out when they do shit the majority of active members of the community don’t like.

Yes, it’s unpaid, doesn’t mean you’re entitled to the community itself.

You can go with an email proxy service, to name a few

  • Firefox Relay
  • SimpleLogin
  • Addy (Previously AnonAddy)

Personally I chose Firefox Relay since I managed to grab premium for 1$/month, and I could integrate it with Bitwarden through the API.

You can use an Invidious instance or Piped to watch YouTube ad-free, and with SponsorBlock builtin for the later.

Being cheap where it counts and spend your money on the stuff that matters is just being money-savvy.

If the laptop came preinstalled with Windows you can likely reinstall the same version (Home or Pro) by using the utility from Microsoft to build a bootable USB drive, and it will auto-activate.

No need to pirate anything, you already have a license.

Depends on the watermark tech used, for example Cinavia is resilient to compression.

But God has the challenge of starting with a minuscule room, expand the cabling as it goes without being able to unplug or replace any cables or move servers during the lifetime of the system, and can’t afford any downtime or shutdown for maintenance.
