Why are these new years memes always accompanied by a picture of either Cillian Murphy or Ryan Gosling?

I shit on liberals mostly because of their notions on ‘altruistic capitalism’. As soon as they purchase an EV, they think they’re out there saving the world and most don’t think critically past that.

Well, the meeting was about cutting expenses.

Yo, Joji’s gonna be in a Christmas Hallmark movie?

How many lounges are open near you on Christmas week that you can make a choice of which one to go to and stay in?

I’ve only thought in my wildest dreams that someone could be so blessed.

It’s a second person plural pronoun. Other languages have them. For instance, Spanish has vosotros/ustedes and German has ihr.

The nice thing about languages is that they evolve, change, reconfigure, and adapt. They are not sacred things, but tools we use and manipulate. While we may have something similar, the utility needs of our words change over time and over regions. In certain parts of the United States and elsewhere ‘y’all’ has filed in the linguistic gap.

The system is just a representation of the aggregate.

What is Something Scientific that you just don't believe in at all?

EDIT: Let’s cool it with the downvotes, dudes. We’re not out to cut funding to your black hole detection chamber or revoke the degrees of chiropractors just because a couple of us don’t believe in it, okay? Chill out, participate with the prompt and continue with having a nice day. I’m sure almost everybody has something...

We don’t need more anti science rhetoric in this world. Why even start this thread?

Disbelief≠skepticism

There are people in the comments denying literal, established, concrete facts. That’s not questioning anything,; that’s ignorance at best and malevolence at worst.

All of your own experiences are at the very least valid as you experienced them.

Scientific rigor states otherwise. You must be able to prove or repeat your experiences for them to be accounted as valid within the context of experimentation.

‘Doing your own research’ isn’t the silver bullet you may think that it is. Most laypeople don’t know what effective research actually looks like; let alone understand how to actually do it or the covariates that may truly be impacting their observations or research. Further still, some may not even care to know as they may already have established biases. More often than not, it simply leads to further conspiratorial thinking.

These tone deaf white girls, man.

And house slaves thought they and their families would have a better life by supporting the power structure that enslaved them to begin with. That doesn’t belie just how fucked up it is that some shitty Taylor Swift fan account is insinuating that a white billionaire could literally purchase a black man.

We’re much worse batteries than an actual battery and we’re exponentially more difficult to maintain.

This is a cute idea for a movie and all but it’s incredibly impractical/unsustainable. If a system required that it’s energy storage be self-replicating (for whatever reason) then you would design and fabricate that energy storage solution for that system. Not be reliant on a calorically inefficiently produced sub-system (i.e. humans).

You literally need to grow an entire human just to store energy in it. Realistically, you’re looking at overfeeding a population with as much calorically dense, yet minimally energy intensive foodstuffs just to store energy in a material that’s less performant than paraffin wax (body fat has an energy density of about 39 MJ/kg versus paraffin wax at about 42 MJ/kg). That’s not to speak of the inefficiencies of the mixture of the storage medium (human muscle is about 5 times less energy dense than fat).

We just tend to break a lot and require a lot of maintenance (feeding, cleaning, repairs, and containment).

All the advertising your institution should need is the research coming out of it.

Intermural sports are fine but if that’s mostly what your university is known for then, as the post mentions, you’re not really a university.

It’s 5 videos but if you know anything about fabrication and making or just have an appreciation for that kind of craft then you can recognize just how much fucking work, time, and money he puts into each video. He’s also a part of an intensely creative duo known as the Rubberbandits.
