neonred,

Needs more Builder Factories and @Annotations

Filing for bankruptcy is offloading your responsibility to others who then have to pay with their money for your faults.

It’s a cheap way out for people that do not act responsibly.

Bankruptcy? Okay, but then lose all saying in your money spending because you just proved you can’t handle it yourself.

neonred,

Hm, just a moment, I’ll put my telephone handset into the acoustic coupler real quick so I can post my contact on the bbs

Is Ubuntu deserving the hate? (lemmy.ml)

Long story short, I have a desktop with Fedora, lovely, fast, sleek and surprisingly reliable for a near rolling distro (it failed me only once back around Fedora 34 or something where it nuked Grub). Tried to install on a 2012 i7 MacBook Air… what a slog!!! Surprisingly Ubuntu runs very smooth on it. I have been bothering all...

Or just use Debian sid, which effectively is Debian in a rolling variant. 🚀

neonred,

Like I said it’s a cheap solution for a single user system. Ofc tmpfs would be better but has to be done for every user again

neonred, (edited )

Because of excessive RAM I symlink ~/.cache to /tmp. Additionally installing zramswap helps for this scenario.

Benefits are faster access, automatc purging between reboots and no wear to the NMVe drive.

Yes, this is a single user scenario.

neonred,

A 14 TB medium is always 14 TB, which is close to 12 TiB. Minus metadata of the filesystem and granularity of a allocation sector.

neonred,

It’s 2 TB, not 2 TiB. One is to the base of 10, the other to the base of 2.

Start with Debian stable (rock solid, well integrated packaging).

When you feel comfortable and have achieved some experience, switch to Debian sid (rolling release, updates very often, be a bit cautious).

For those who don’t understand: cage is a kiosk wayland window manager, which means it only runs one program in the foreground and in fullscreen.

foot is a graphical terminal emulator.

So the joke here is to run a terminal emulator in fullscreen and kiosk mode on a wayland wm from tty, which, at first sight, looks exactly the same as just tty. So you use wayland for a lookalike tty session, which is a nod at OP’s image which states you wouldn’t run a tty on x or wayland.

(But cage+foot has mouse support, nice fonts, can launch graphical programs, etc., and has itself established as a kind of rescue shell for tty-less kernel distributions)

neonred,

$ cage foot

neonred,

Been using my Bialetti Moka Express… for 10+ years… I use Debian btw…

neonred,

and NixOS would be?

neonred, (edited )

Ubuntu is a product of Canonical which are a pretty evil corporation and a submarine of Microsoft. What they don’t leech off Debian is proprietay and lock-in.

neonred,

Debian sid is just as fresh and a (nearly) rolling release distribution. I game on it with Wine, Cyperpunk, X4, Baldur’s Gate and others are no problem.

neonred,

Debian. So that would be Noteviluntu.

neonred,

I would have chosen Debian with KDE Plasma (or with Cinnamon if you prefer that) but… close enough :)

Welcome to the herd!
